Adam, now that I've seen the clip, I think it would be GREAT to see your approach to jamming with it and maybe some other forum members as well. It could be a really good learning experience for some of us.

The easiest way to play along to such complicated guitar work is to give a walking-style bassline on the lower register.

That was great! I love Big Bill. Not only was he a great guitar player, he had a great voice AND he wrote some amazing tunes!

One way attack this is to try playing the recurring melody line of the tune. When the guitarist is soloing, the groove continues to be established.

Steve Freund recorded a very similar ooze on his tune called Big Blue Mama. I believe it was Steve Guyger played harp on it.

Robert Nighthawk used this groove on "Gonna Move To Kansas City".
