my guitar playing friend and i are kicking around the idea playing out.
we think a a drum machine would help keep us in the groove and drown out our playing. (or at least my harp!)

does anybody know of any drum machines that are programmable. we want to program some drums for each song so when we play out we decide...hoochie coochie man; that's #6 on the machine.

anybody??

The following site , which is free, allows you to compose drum beats. I think it is a good site & may give you what you are after?

Below isn't a drum machine of the electronic type, but it is of a machanical type. Although it is a bit expensive it is worth looking at:
The Farmers Foot Drum I believe Adam uses the smaller version of this.

For what its worth...

My idea for a drum machine is to prepare beats using the above program ie http://www.8notes.com/metronome/, record them and download onto an ipod which could be connected into your amp. Track 6 on the ipod Gig Playlist Hoochie Coochie Man. I think it would easily work and be a lot less hassle to have to lug around.

Eharp-something like this?

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=DRUM+MACHINE&rls=com.microsoft:*&oe=UTF-8&startIndex=&startPage=1&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=11528509764173763976&sa=X&ei=55eMTbfVDfOC0QGVgvGzCw&ved=0CFUQ8wIwAw#

I personally like to see folks actually play the instruments I am hearing, but there's a perk to no having to deal with or pay another band member, certainly. I dig those Farmer drums-that's what you need.

The one thing I've yet to see with drums machines is that, to the best of my knowledge, they cannot be programmed to play either behind or ahead of the beat, and only straight on top of the beat.

While my band was drummerless for the first part of this year, I played this for a few shows. It makes being the harp player an aerobic endeavor!

We considered a drum machine but just couldn't bring ourselves to do it.
