Great site Capt.
This will benefit both harp and vocals. ---------- The Pentatonics Myspace Youtube

@7LimitJI, @Ant138, @RyanMortos:
Good stuff, no? Chris (the presenter) is a friend and bandmate of mine. Fine musician. No idea he was so good at the teaching thing, though!
I think 7LimitJI's right on the money when he says it "will benefit both harp and vocals."

This site is just what I am looking for.
I have heard a few people say that 'anyone can learn to sing', I am going to test this theory out.

Excellent stuff there, El Capitan-thanks for sharing! This kinda ties in with my physical fitness thread, as well. Things that I need to start paying attention to again, personally. ---------- Todd

This is good stuff, indeed.
I spent about six years in vocal training. I have to admit that I'm incredibly out of shape since stopping lessons. I could only eek out 45secons on the "hissing" exercise.
I learned different version of similar exerises.
The real butt kicker was:
Step one: exhale all of your air Step two: breathe in for a 10 count (approx 15seconds) Step three: Hold for the same 10 count. Step Four: Breathe out (same as the hissing) for 10 count, empty completely if you've managed to save any air. Step Five: Hold with no air for 10 count.
Lather, rinse, repeat. It goes to a 12 count if you can get through three cycles in a row. I did it maybe once. Both the inhale and exhale are analagous to the "hissing" exercise.
The first exercise (the one above was the second), was a little easier. You start empty, then breathe in for a defined number of counts (start at 15). You then, in the same breath, breathe out for that number plus 4. Each time you can get the +4, your initial number goes up by one. I got up to, then got stuck at 31.
Anyone in or around Stow, MA, or Middletown, CT contact me and I'll put you in touch with my old teacher. Those lessons represented some of the best money I ever spent.

hey dan, whats up? i really enjoy your youtube videos. that must be some vocal teacher that you spent six years on it... i have been taking voice lessons for about a month. im learning alot but i cant see myself doing it for years. seems like after several months you could take something like that into your own hands to keep getting better, no?

Great link! Really helped me on the way to a better tone, thanks mate. Good teacher too, guess he does it for a living. The lack of understanding of the basic physics/biology of the respiratory system by vocal coaches/specialists always amuses me though. Analogies are more useful sometimes i suppose haha. Thanks again, great link gonna invest some time in this. Sven
