I think 'no doctor' listed as his cause of death illustrates how little the authorities cared about 'just another dead negro' back in those days.

Reputedly, Rice Miller ( SB II ) met up with RJ at a juke joint in Three Forks, Mississippi. Miller warned RJ not to drink from an open bottle, but Johnson was obstinate, and unpolitely told SB II to mind his own business. It's unclear as to who put the poison in the bottle, or if it was even intended for RJ...but it just adds to the legend.
