Hi Folks, I posted a portion of this track earlier but I pulled it cos the standard of harp playing was pretty poor and I should have played better.

However, I'm just loading this on for comment because a number of guys on here have given me some good advice regarding tune creation and I think I've heeded that advice and incorporated a lot in this.

I've left some holes for harp but the finished version will feature the harp once I can firm up and settle this backing track.

It's a mash-up of the 12 bar blues progression, with a reggae-type off beat, Flamenco style "Palmas" clapping rhythms, Northern English clog dancing rhythms, Techno-Dance with a soothing string melody and a spoonfull of J M Jarre thrown in for good measure. It's quite experimental and I quite like what I have so far. I wasn't so sure ealier but it's growing on me. It's in the key of E but I can't help but notice that the string melody has an oriental feel which I just can't understand. I wasn't aiming for that at all, it just appeared.

It is a WIP so I need to review the beginning and work out an ending. Thanks for any comments, they are well apreciated.

Agreed - I'm intrigued to hear where the harp's going to fit in the mix. Good to hear someone doing something different here.

Yes, I have an old version 3.56 of Fruity Loops (now known as FL studio) It's basically a sequencer. I'm really programming the music, you don't actually play it like an instrument. It can get very complicated but once you crack it, it is a very powerful and useful tool. I'm still a relative beginner but I'm making progress thanks to what I've learnt from playing harp.

Took, you are insane. I mean that in a good way though. I love this stuff, it's not my usual style but it shows you are unique and thinking outside the box. Nice job.

Thanks Rift. As I see it the traditional blues belong to the guys that created it from what they were influenced by in their day. They were the masters.

I'm looking for my niche by thinking outside the box and stealing bits and pieces from the music I like and feel has influenced me. It's fun but I'm a novice at music making and find it hard at times.

Tooka,

I liked it. I look forward to the harp version.

Coming from a dance/techno aspect of the song, it left me feeling like I didn't get what I wanted. It had plenty of action, but It felt like a long introduction to the real song I wanted to hear with a driving dance bass thump.

I think after 12 bars of introducing your melody, you should start cranking! Drive that thing with a bass beat. I thought the muffled bass in the beginning was great and should have increased in volume through the first few bars, then break at the 12th then BANG! Thump Thump Thump!

Anyway something to try... You can always delete it...

My 2 cents anyway...

Nice work!

Thanks Kingo. I've uploaded my later version which incorporates a more driving beat and some further twiddles and tweaks but I need to be a bit conservative because I'm hoping to use the track on a video about house refurbishment. Ha ha.
