I came across these videos today. They summed up the era of when I was actively playing. I opened for albert about 20 times around the world and would end up jamming with his band on such numbers. I also got to play with and hang with lighting. This to me sums up that era - entertaining, great music, and audiences that came to hear the band and be part of it. The old buses out back, the stories backstage, and just these guys presence is something that hasn't been seen since IMO. These are guys that did 300+ road gigs a year for 40+ years. This kind of stage magic can only be learned this way. Walter

Great stuff. Thanks for sharing. How lucky to have technology so that those of us who missed it can at least get a glimpse.

I am glad you appreciated it. I can still remember those times like it was yesterday. Walter

Ah, the good old days. That looks like Bill McFarland playing the trombone in the Albert Collins video. I used to see him around Chicago in the 80's. Killer player and leader of an awesome band when he wasnt on the road.

Albert was killer. What a sound! There is no substitute for getting out the and doing it! Over and over and over again!

Lightnin. Hopkins was one helluva singer. What an incredible singer and songwriter.

That was deeply emotional stuff that few people play anymore. Most guys can't get that low down.

Joe: I agree. Being onstage with Lightning and hanging out with him was a hell of a thing. I got to play, travel, live with so many of that old school type bluesman, that they are my benchmark. These new players just don't have near the depth of those guys. No insult intended but I pretty much stick to the old guys when I want to hear someone other than myself. They will always be Modern because they had their own sound. Walter
