Was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of info on modding FX pedals for harp. I think I remember reading somewhere about changing the coupling capacitor values to facilitate more bass. Besides making them more "bass friendly", I was also wondering about making them more "high impedance friendly"?

Ron Holmes of Holmes Engineering (maker of the Harp Commander) used to mod pedals for harp and maybe he still does. My impression was that these mods made the pedals more bullet mic friendly.

I use pedals but I don't use bullet mics. The only mod I've ever had done was a true bypass mod to one of my MicroPOG pedals. I had the mod done by Analogman because I was having feedback issues using the MP with tube amps and the TB mod lowered the output gain of the MP which eliminated the feedback problem.

Impedance has never been an issue for me, but perhaps it would be for bullet mics. I don't know. In my experience some pedals are more harp friendly than others. I tend to use XLR style mics through an impedance matching transformer. I also tend to prefer true bypass pedals. I'm very conscious of what the pedal does to my signal when the pedal is not engaged.

I am not good with the science behind everything, but I would look to add something inline, like a transformer, before modding guitar pedals. In that way, as harp gear catches up with technology, there is some resale value.

I think something like the Lonewolf HarpTone would be great...it would add bass and match impedence. The Kinder pedals would as well (much more money).

Can you share more about your specific rig?

I was going to pick up a cheap delay (Danelectro PB&J or FAB Echo) and wanted to make sure the low end didn't get cut off by the pedal. Many years ago when I worked in a music shop I had someone mod a Danelectro Dan Echo (or maybe it was the PB&J), and I think they just swapped out a capacitor to allow more bass? I think I read something about how to do this more recently, but I can't remember where?

What kind of mic are you using?

I've been using an MXR Carbon Copy Delay and it's nice and dark. Supposed to be true bypass, but it's really not--although if you leave it on all the time (which i do) it's fine. I'm very pleased with the sound.
