Or know anything about the city? I will be there for one day wed April 13, Might have the whole day to tool around the city. Any cool places the check out? I know the state capital has one of the few gold leaf domes in the county, that might be worth seeing. I'm game for anything from art museums to cultural centers. Also wondering about good eats in the city. I'll be there with my wife so a good restaurant would be in order. Does not have to be fancy. Maybe you know of an Open Mic night or a cool band on the 13th. Any tips would be helpful.

Thanks Jim. I'm driving in from VA Beach and then leaving the next day to head back to the New River Gorge. I figure about 6 hours to Charleston. As much as I'd love to hang with you guys another hour there and back is a tough sell.

Anyway if nothing else a good restaurant would be good. I hate going to a new city and eating at Olive Garden or Outback. I want to taste the city I'm visiting not Anywhere USA.

Hell yeah!!!! When you get to Charleston, there are two rivers, the Kanawha and the Elk River, WV's premiere river. That's my Elk! It's the smaller of the two. I grew up on the Elk River 14 miles north of Charleston. You will want to take your wife to Joe Fazios italian. http://www.fazios.net you will need to make a reservation, I've not eaten there in a while, but it is the best restaurant in the city, this is fact. They are a Charleston institution been there for many years. My dad used to take the family there occasionally and it was a huge deal when he did. You could go to south charleston and see the second largest indian burial mound in WV. There are trails to hike in the Kanawha State forest.
You ought to go to a baseball game if the Power is in town that day.
You could check out the Clay Center. Best hotel is The mariot.
