The black cat mojo guitar called my name tonight and I used it with my 1 man band. It was given to me by the late Paul Sessoms, owner of the black cat lounge in austin texas. Anyone living in Austin in the mid 80's will tell it was the craziest club in town. He gave it to me when we left austin 96. I played his club more than anyone and this was a going away gift. He had it made by a mojo man for me. It is an aluminum body resonator with kitchen sink drains, a funky japanese pickup (I think), has a spell on it and will only play when it calls me. Otherwise it will not tune up, crackles, or simply won't work at all. The action is set real high like a lap steel. I play the bass strings with the palm of my left had which holds a slide bar and works the other strings. It also has instructions for me to follow. It guided me to working with disabled children, building my own studio, and other things since I got it. Here are some pictures of it. It is a real deal magical box.

I ran my paper towel roll/shure57/ into a plug in amp simulator. As usual, all the words and music are made up on the spot and recorded. Walter

Hi Hobostubs: I thought you would appreciate this guitar. Here some other songs with it from years ago. Some are with me backing Gwen Davis. Gwen is an autistic savant that writes some great poetry. She wrote a song about tim mcgraw and I got it to his mananger. Tim wrote her a handwitten note back with his new cd. I love backing Gwen. I overdubbed a bunch on her cuts.

walterharp: Thanks. Your comment gave me an idea. As of these songs I am blowing the harp in a paper towel roll with a mic in it and then running that into a preamp and into my recording interface. What I hear as I am playing is a clean harp sound and when I mix the songs, use a guitar amp simulator plug in that gives it the amplified sound.
I am going back to the harp on a regular rack with no mic/tube holder and then mix it with the amp simulator and see what that sounds like. It will be picked up by the vocal recording mic which is a good one that is coupled with a good tube preamp. I will do an instrumental and see what happens. Walter

I like the black mojo guitar story and it does have a majic sound. And Gwen,wow...listening to her drained me of some negativity I've been carrying. Very spiritual. You and her are very good together. Somehow, you earned the privilege of backing an angel.

Lmbrjak: Thanks! Backing up Gwen is a real treat. She is a role model in doing your thing and not giving a crap what the world thinks. Better said- she never even entertains such thoughts. That is pure art inspiration. That guitar worked its magic again! I got an email today from an austin friend that heard it and invited me down to a black cat cafe celebration this weekend that the club owners family puts on down on the gulf coast. I wish I had the dough to go. It will be a lot of the guys I knew playing and i would love to get up and do my thing one more time.
