I recorded these this afternoon with my 1 man band set up using keys, drums, ride cymbal, harp, vocals. I ran the harp via my rack(with paper towel holder/shure 57 stuck in it) to an amplifier simulator in my recording software. As I recorded, it sounded acoustic with some compression from the towel roll. Then I made it sound amplified on mixdown via the recording software plugin. Walter

Why don't play all parts separately with metronome for studio track? One Man bands are usually cool to see but when you listen to just an audio it don't have a great effect. I think this track could be better if you'll play them separately. ---------- Excuse my bad English. Click on my photo or my username for my music.

Hi Boris: Thanks for the feedback. I have done the traditional approach you mentioned playing in many of the old blues guys bands and my own band when I was starting out. Since I was a child I have been making up songs, paintings, poetry. In fact, I live my life very spontaneously. Something inside me tells me when and what to do. Starting out in the music business I was shocked to find out that others were doing rehearsed, repeated, songs. I learned in total musical isolation and just figured everyone made everything up as they go along.
I know if I did each instrument seperately and practiced parts, it would sound much more polished. The problem is this way of doing music doesn't hold my interest. I have been isolated because of my approach. The entire music industry from kids learning their first song to superstar musicians is based on a preconcived idea that is polished over and over until it is perfect. My approach is more like what you see out of your eyes at any given second. I simply put it to music. I like not keeping strict time, making mistakes, and being less than perfect. It is in these areas that most excitement lies for me. I am addicted to spontaneously creating all my words and music as I go along. The words flow and I walk into my songs. I time travel to them. The feeling of the unknow is what excites me the most. Whatever others hear is not really an influence on me. If I start to think, my gift disapears. I
Over the years this has attracted lots of famous musicians to play with me. They dug the approach and many confided they wish they could do what they really wanted but were boxed in to their hit songs and style. I use to wish that these experiences would transfer to my approach being welcomed into the music industry. So far this hasn't happened but that is ok. I am driven to do what I do. It keeps me sane. The universe works in wonderful ways. The first musician I met was Wilbert Harrison. He had a huge hit in the 50's called Kansas City and in the 60's Lets Work Together. That was done as a 1 man band. So, here I was a kid walking down the street blowing my harp and he pulls me over in his cadillac and puts me in his band. His band was a 1 man band. Now I realize this first experience is my greatest musical gift. I am totally self contained. I don't have to rely on anyone for making music anymore. The universe also guided to teaching school and a steady income. I dig my job. Like my music, it allows me to be free and spontaneous. The difference is it pays good and I will get a decent retirement. This has allowed me to become totally self contained with my music. When I played full time I was always broke and just dreamed of the musical things I now own. The universe has led me around the world with such things that continue to make my life more peaceful and satified. Most recently it led me here to Ohio where I have been able to build a recording studio and now totally control my music. We knew no one, had no job leads, just that calling in me to go here. I live my life this way thus my music reflects this. I look forward to where the next chapter takes me. I walk blindly. Life is good. waltertore...I find your approach refreshing. To me, you have taken improvisation to a whole new level. I think the music world would be a better place if more musicians used your approach. All of us on the forum have made up harp lines as we go. Why not lyrics, rythym, and backing music as well?
I'm sure most blues, jazz, and some rock musicians improvise at some level..and maybe other genres too. It is sad that some great musicians in some genres play great music their whole life, but it is written down for them by someone else.
Great tracks Walter and hats off to you for doing it your way!

thanks harpdude61! I really for the life of me can't figure out why more people aren't making up the whole thing as they go along. I have met improv musicians but they tend to play very complicated, long, instrumental, stuff. Society has associated this high brain stuff with improv. I think they view me as a defective toy because my attempts to connect with them have so far been ignored :-) Society needs mass produced repetitive products to make the system work. Thus it produces mass produced repetitive musicians/artists. People are conditioned to know what to expect at a given restraunt, concert, car dealer, art show, sport event, etc...... Very few people are willing to walk blindly and try out a spontaneous approach to life. Too bad because it has taken me on wonderful journey :-) . I am not judging anything or anybody, just making an observation on how our world works. Walter
PS: Another observation- most people do not believe anything can be done on this earth without compromise. That is what has held me back on many big music deals. I simply said no unless I could do it my way. That nixed the deal everytime so far. I do hold hope this will change in my lifetime! ---------- walter tore's spontobeat - a real one man band and over 1 million spontaneously created songs and growing. Walter, I gotta keep it real - you're a legend in your own mind. How much money are you making with this ongoing one-man-band deal?

bluesmozark: All I am aiming for is to be satified and making money from music has nothing to do with if I am satified right now. Whatever form being satified takes on is fine with me. For now there is very little money being made via music because I am not actively booking gigs and am not interested in playing live unless it is to an audience that comes specifically to hear music. I made a living off playing for 20 years with my own band and playing with some of the most reknowned blues guys of those days. I handled every aspect of the business then and right now it no longer inspires me so I let it go. Many highly touted rock guys have been in my band as well and I enjoyed mixing with thier ways of music. For today, the inspiration is to play, learn how to make good recordings, share my music for free, and put wishes out to the universe for someone else to come along and book/promote my approach to music.
As for the legend in my own mind. I really have no response for that other than to say I never recall calling myself a legend. I enjoy what I do now and have done with my music and life. I simply follow my dreams. They have done me right so far, so I keep on following them!
