Hi,
I have this mic that won't work anymore. I don't have a clue what it is but this is what it looks like:

First ist started to sound like it has a loose connection because the signal dropped sometimes and now it varies between low signal and no signal. The groundwire came lose as well but even if I hold it against the housing or the solder lug, I don't get the full signal. Something seems to be broke inside. Does anybody know how I can open it up without breaking it. It is very fragile and it's glued together. Any ideas?
Has anybody ever seen something like this at all?
thanks

It is a dynamic element.
Looks very corroded, so chances are its corroded on the inside too.
Try re-soldering both wires as it might be a dry joint.
But has probably just died :o(

It's poor dynamic old Russian mic. Don't worry about it and get something good. ---------- Excuse my bad English. Click on my photo or my username for my music.

problem also is that even after cleaning normal solder would not stick to the lugs. I have no clue what material the lugs are made of ...
@ boris: this thing is super cheap but it sounded better than all of our CMs, CRs, crystals and all the other stuff we have lying around. It has a great dynamic range and bite ... even tho it looks crappy it sounds killer ... if possible, id like to save it ...

You need some aggressive flux to clean the lugs.
Try a plumbers merchant. It is nasty stuff as its got acid in it to clean copper pipes. So don't go to the toilet or rub your eyes without washing first!!! Its worse than red hot chilli's ;O) ---------- The Pentatonics Myspace Youtube

@7limitJI: cleaning isn't the problem. I can remove the dirt with fine sandpaper. Those lugs look like they are made of aluminum or something ... very strange. I'll try it nevertheless. It's already broke so what the heck.
@boris: yes, we tried SM57s as well. It's a fine mic but that russian cheapo blew them all away ...
