Hi everyone.
I,m a newbie to the forum and was wondering if anyone can recommend any good harp teachers here in the UK.I,ve been playing for around 18 months, having downloaded 30 plus lessons from mbh website.Any recommendations greatly appreciated....Might consider skype lessons.
Thanks

Where in the UK are you?

I couldn't find any pro's in my area giving lessons so I had few skype lessons with different instructors and I attended blues week last year.

http://euroblues.co.uk/bluesweek2011.htm

I have just booked flights to go to blues week again this year.

captainbliss gives harp lessons. He's in London. Hopefully he'll see your post and get in touch. He's a great player and performer. He may do Skype.

Also check out 7limitJI, he may do lessons for you, I know he does skype and is in Scotland.

Oh! captainbliss and 7limitJI are both forum members here.

Try the national harmonica league web site. They have a list of teachers and jam sessions in the UK.

Welcome to the forum!

grahamonica - blues week is in Northampton, Grant Dermody & Joe Filisko will be taking the harmonica lessons through out the week.

If you go to blues week it will be possible for you to attend 25 hours of harmonica classes/workshops through out the week, you will be able to jam every night, attend the staff concerts and perform at the student concert.

Accommodation and all your food are included in the fee.

Hey Grahamonica,

I live in Dunfermline in Fife and found a teacher locally, he does both harmonica and bass lessons.

I like him, and lessons are pretty cool fun.

Also really looking forward to Dundee again this year last year was ace so I can't wait :o)

Hi Graham,
I'm in South Lanarkshire.

Played a few times at the Dundee festival and should be there this year.

I can play a bit and could give you some lessons. Either on skype or face to face.
Cheers

@tookatooka:

Thank you for the kind words.

@grahamonica:

1. The NHL (National Harmonica League) can be very helpful. Here is a link to the NHL website.

2. I can do Skype (or face to face, if you're ever in London.) If you want to drop me a line, I'm at captainbliss(AT)captainbliss(DOT)com.

3. Don't let 7LimitJI's "can play a bit" modesty put you off. He's a *fine* player.

4. Speaking of fine players (well, masters, actually)... Dennis Gruenling and Grant Dermody both teach via Skype. I've had (face to face) classes from both. They're lovely and spectacular players. Their contact details can be found on Adam's Teacher A-List here on MBH.

5. Blues Week is truly wonderful and, if you're serious about playing harmonica, the opportunity to study intensively with Grant Dermody and Joe Filisko is not to be missed. Life permmitting, I'll be there.

EDIT: Details for Blues Week 2011

6. I second strawwoodclaw's endorsement of David Barrett's website. His teaching (and indeed teaching material - books, CDs, etc) is very methodical, very clear and very useful.

7. If you haven't already done so, work though our host's YouTube videos!

EDIT:

8. Does Don Black teach?

@belfast_harper:

See you in August!

Hi Peter sorry no i was not there which is unusual for me as its a local for me.
My friend Trevor mentioned to me about the harp player he had on vid and I was reviewing his vids when I saw yours on here.
I would have liked to meet and have a chat about harps etc. Maybe next time.
BTW what Amp are you playing and what wireless set up have you got as I am looking at saving up for one in the UK.
Have alook at my You Tube Site if you have time.
There are some excellent vids I did from UK harp Players I have come to know. The site name is Oxharp.

Cheers

Hey Russ,
I hope we will be able to meet up one day. We do gig a lot all around UK so there is a high chance that you will catch me somewhere.
I'm using HG30-the best amp I've ever played trough.
Worth every single penny!!!
For wireless I'm using Samson. Never let me down yet and it's relatively cheap. I also us Kinder AF+ which affects my sound plus chain of effects-too many to name but I love them all lol.
If you got more questions feel free to ask. If we meet up you should try the amp and you'll know what I'm talking about.
P.S. I'll check out your site for sure.
Regards
Peter

I'll happily show anyone all I know for free. I'm not the greatest player in the world by a long stretch but I do know a thing or two about playing harmonica. If you see me out and about, ask me and if I know the answer I'll happily tell you. If I don't the answer to your question, then I'll point you in the direction of someone who does.
