After following the post about recording I decided to order the Zoom H2. A lot of you gave it a thumbs up.
I'm sure it could be a useful practice tool as well as recording at jams and such.
The sound recording on my webcam totally sucks. Is there a way to use the H2 with my webcam? Do I need to purchase or download anything else?
Any thoughts, suggestions, or comments about Zoom H2 are welcome.

Yeah you can do it. Connect your h2 w/usb it will turn on by itself, select"audio" select "connect" make sure your webcam audio setting is set to the h2 and your set.

This is probably a real nobrainer for most of you, and maybe off topic here, but I recently discovered that it is possible to connect everything--mics, guitar, etc into a mixer--then, with a 7 dollar cable (1/8" male stereo to 1/8" male stereo) from Radio Shack, connect the mixer headphone output to the camera (or computer) mic jack--which bypasses the crappy little mics in the camera.
With my old Alesis Multimix8 mixer. I can even add a little FX and control EQ on each line in--then I just use headphones to determine how much signal I send. I don't think I could get much real overdrive, because it would get too hot for the camera or computer, but I can sure get a lot better sound out of stuff I already had around the house.
Maybe all cameras don't work this way--but I have three of them (my wife is a nut on photography) and it works for all of them. It also works on my HP laptop with built-in camera. The best camera I have is still an old dinosaur Sony that uses little digital tapes for storage.
I don't have a Zoom H2--but this could be an option for getting better sound out of video recordings--if you happen to have a mixer around. . .

good luck with the zoom! I had one of the first versions and for convience it is hard to beat.
oldwailer: I wish I could hook up my mics to the video camera. My camera has no such jack. How is your harp holder coming? If it is anything like that guitar you built I will probably want to buy one off you. Walter

@Walter--the harp holder is coming along--I have a prototype that actually works fine as a holder--I'm just messing with it now to get a better mic in it--the cheapie element I used at first just has a crappy sound. I might have some breaking news on this within the next couple of days--if I can just stop myself from messin with that new steel guitar I made. . . ---------- ==================================== Always be yourself--unless you suck. . . -Joss Whedon

oldwailer: I await the word. I am not a builder and mine is a half assed rig thing. If yours works out I hope you will sell me one. harpdude61 the questions you ask have just recently been researched by myself. I still have no answer. My Sony Bloggie has iffy sound & no way of attaching an external mic. I love my H2Zoom & after tweaking in Audacity the recordings are really good (well the sound is even if my playing is so so). It is possible, using Movie editing software, to bypass the sound recorded on the camera and overlay the sound recorded on the H2Zoom. But, and a big but for me is the time it takes and messing about. Getting everything to sync and converting files is slow and tedious. My next step (a little way off) is to buy a new PC with a massive storage and memory & perhaps invest in a program like Pinnacle to do movie editing.
You will however be very happy with the H2Zoom as its a great piece of gear.

@Aussiesucker I use Pinnacle in at least 3 different versions over the years...and still get frustrated with it every time I use it! Try to work with a Trial version at first. I got best results if I started editing 'short pieces' of films. Once I got those to my liking I could (often) put them together to a longer film...DVD length...

OK, this is a Zoom H2 question. The batteries with me do not last up to 2 hours - so when you record at jams make sure you have AC and you might select to rec in mp3! Plus it's important to check which mics are active! A friend of mine tried recording a whole concert of his band...and ended up with mainly audience noises and applause - at least.

Please don't get me wrong. After all I bought Pinnacle again and again, I must like it somehow, I couldn't have just been frustrated with it all those years....Just please try it out with your system and see IF it works for your hardware. To me it seems a rather easy to work with program IF it decides to function for you.....

The batteries in mine seem fine as I do not record a lot ie one or two tunes at a time. I purchased my H2Zoom online from the US - Amazon and it came with an AC adapter that is totally unusable in Oz. Anyway my motive to use the Zoom was to record when away from home so spare batteries are always on hand.
