I've got my first suzuki manji on the way, arriving tomorrow. Pretty excited to try one. ordered from amazon- would have ordered from rockin rons but I have some amazon gift cards (the perks of being a teacher I guess). its a Bb which will replace one of the remaining Lee Oscar I've still used. Building my collection of non-Lee Oscars which I don't care to use unless I need to for now.

So now I'll have a few MB 1896, 1 crossover, and the manji. Want to get a MB deluxe next but prob will get a couple regular MBs soon to fill up more keys. Unless i get a good deal on Deluxe's or if I fall in love with Manji's...Ill need to learn how to replace the nails w screws soon on the MBs.

I'll post when I play it for my non-expert review...

Replacing the nails is easy...I can give you some pointers thatbI learned the hard way.

I've got my own opinions about the manji ... I ll keep them to myself for now, until you form your opinion. Lol.

The deluxe is my favorite from the marine band line. They are thicker than the rest of them. The covers have a different angle to them.

At the risk of being seen as a troll, and somewhat OT from the OP, I don't think that's true about the Deluxe. I don't see any difference in dimensions or cover plate shape between 1896, 2005 and 2009 marine band models. True the 2005 and 2009 covers have seams closed (soldered?) and they have different ornamental stamps but I see no other difference there.

I have had the impression I've seen some fatter deluxes, but measured up against an 1896 there's no difference.

@ScottK

Check out Andrew Zajac's website. He has video tutorials, a printed checklist, etc on how to convert MBs to screws. It's simple, especially after the first one.

I converted all my MBs to screws, and replaced the original combs with Andrew's. Couldn't be happier with them

Very cool Scott,
IMO you are on the right track by checking out a number of solid quality harmonicas, including the Manji. It's obvious by the wide variety of respectable opinions here, that finding a favorite harp(s) is a very personal choice. I have several Suzuki harps and really like Manji. Have fun with your new Bb.

Oh ya, it's easy to replace nails with screws. Also, in a pinch you can slightly bend a loose nail using needle nose pliers and then press it into the old hole.

It's about time I got around to this.
