The best gig I ever attended was the Jimi Hendrix Experience in late 1967(ummm I seem to trapped Marty like back in the past - o well, press on!) One of the reasons for its success was its unlikely venue on Hastings Pier in the south of the UK. A Victorian Pier built in 1872 (and very recently destroyed by a fire)in a sleepy little seaside town. I remember to this day arriving at the gig thinking it can't be the 'Jimi Hendrix' (Hey Joe had previously shot towards the top of the charts) it'll be a sound alike ie 'Jimmy Hendricks Experiment' or something. Got there, Dark stage, Curtains drawn and then the sound of this amazing wailing feedback guitar intro to Foxy Lady. Curtains open, lights blaze on and there they are, Mitch Mitchell, Noel Redding and Jimi rockin' it out. Abso-bloody-lutely outstanding.
Worst gig about a month later at Sussex University - Jimi Hendrix!! pissed out of his skull and high as a kite, he could barely hold his guitar. But on the plus side, he did stumble into me on the way to the bar:)
Ah well you win some and you lose some!!

Best. Leonard Cohen last year. Voice mellowed like fine wine. Very tight backing band. You could feel the love, no, lust, from the ladies in the audience for this septugenarian poet-songster in the three-piece pinstripe and hat, which he held to his heart at times.
Who knows? If his manager hadn't allegedly ripped him off, Leonhard might not have toured. Good for us as we got to see him and helped restock his finances. He played for 3.5 hours and not one boring bit. Showing the youngsters how to do it...
