I think I might have posted on this before. Please create a small thumbnail of your face, upload it to a webhost somewhere, and link it with image code to your signature. See the forum how-to for help with these steps.

It has been my experience that when there are actual photograph of real human beings attached to their posts, forums are much much much more civil than the way this one has become. We are too large now to self-police like we could in the old days. We must rely on such tricks of psychology as we can. I'm not sure it is the seeing of another's face which helps folks temper their words a bit, or if it is the fear of punishment since everyone can see your face (as games theory would predict), but either way, forums that allow and encourage the use of profile pictures seem to always be more civil.

It need not be a detailed realistic photo. Have a look at my own picture, which is more stylized (done by TookaTooka for several of us back in the day). Either way, it humanizes me, and helps provide a frame of reference for you when you communicate with me. Much more so than does my user-name alone (which is simply my first and last names concatenated with no capitals).

Sincerely,

Isaac I. T. Ullah, MA, PhC., Archaeologist, HArmonica Player, and Human Being.

Ray, I tried to fix the html in your post, but it looks like you didn't paste the whole address in.

Edit: Oops, never mind.

Edit 2: Huh, and now it's gone again.

Can't find a how-to link nor is the search function of any value. Can someone point me to the link for the how to embed section of this website? I have set it up on photobucket already...

<img src="insert link to your file including the http:// bit" height=choose your height in pixels, width will scale in proportion unless you specify it separately>

not really a good idea to shrink a big photo in html as it still downloads the full sized image, not good for page loading time and Adam's bandwidth.

Snakes, I always do cut and paste. On the how-to link, scroll down to the post a picture link and copy the link there into my message. In a separate tab in my browser I open the picture in flikr. (You're using photobucket, but it should work the same.) Right click on the picture and select 'copy image url'. Depending on your browser it may something else similar. Take that picture url and paste it into the middle of the code you copied (replace everything between the " " with the url code.) That should do it. You can do the same thing in your profile if you want to put it there too!

I just noticed on pics that are posted using photobucket that you can click on the pic posted and view that persons entire photobucket album.
Whats up with that??
I just viewed pharpo's photo album of the Hill Country event. By the way, nice pic's!

That's because the code photobucket generates for you contains a hyperlink back to photobucket.

If you delete everything before

less-than-sign-"img" (hope this isn't confusing, but this forum won't let me post code as text)

and

the less-than-sign-forward-slash-"a"-greater-than-sign

at the end (again, sorry I can't show you!)

that will kill the hyperlink and the image you share won't link anywhere.

Hope that makes some sense?

xxx

EDIT: corrected the hash I made of that first time round and put in the things I wanted to put in.

Hmmm...

EDIT 2: added a pic where you can see my eyes.

Ray, I reposted your pic and deleted all the html that wasn't necessarry (that linked back to photobucket...). Just click 'edit' to remove the first image and to check out the changes (i.e. all the html that is really necessary to post a pic).

Ray, you can also delete ' border="0" alt="Photobucket" '. It won't change anything as how the picture is displayed. But this would only leave the...

img src="..."

which is the only necessary command to display a picture.

Tin Lizzie, could it be that you actually wanted to post the following address/picture?

I got the address by following nacorans tips described above.

Straw, it's just under the forum creed on the main forum page, but here is a link.

Forum How-To

You'll need to host the picture somewhere else. I think most people use Flikr or Photobucket. Then just cut and paste the HTML from the forum how-to into your post and replace the URL with the URL of the picture (the URL of the picture is different than the page it is on. Right click on the photo and select 'copy URL' or whatever your browser calls it!) Then post the message.

See how this one goes.

Strikes me every face is a white face. Go back 40 /50 years the players we talk about were black. Now we talk about portnoy, greulling, fillisko, budha, gussow, ricci, wilson, hummel...all white.

when did the harmonica cross the shade of the skin divide and why has it been such a definite cross over?
