a while ago on the net I read how Paul Jones harp playing was boring and easy to play,and I never read any recognition for the guy.This being said I have appealed on this site and also in various groups on facebook for advice on the harp solo in the blues band cover for someday baby which you can find on the official bootleg blues album.I urge you to listen to this track because noone can tell me how its done,so all the ppl who feel he is no good well try this solo out and see if you can play it.

sharpharp, thanks for bringing this tune into my life. I was able to summon it on YouTube.

It sounds like Paul plays most of the song in C harp in 2nd position. That solo though! I think it's some kind of slightly altered tuning, but you can get real close with a Eb in 5th position. I'm missing that wail note at 2:15. There's also some other nuance to the 9 blow that he reaches up to that definitely a little different sounding.

Overall, I think it's really catchy. Right up there with Charlie Musselwhite on "Way Down in the Hole". In some ways almost reminiscent of what Charlie does... to my ears at least.

That's the version of "Someday Baby" I do.
I see Ridge's post beat mine while I was typing, but I can tell you it is definitely in the key of G and the harp is an F in 3rd position.
I do a note for note cover, I don't mind being unoriginal. I play it that way because I really like what he does on it.
I do the vocals too so I'm limited to the brief intro and outro and middle solo.
Get yourself the software "Amazing Slowdowner" it's USD $49.95 here's a link to the site

You can slow any track down to as low as 20% and you can loop any section of the song you want and save it. You can also change the pitch in very fine steps of just 1 cent to any pitch you want.
It's a great learning tool and brilliant for learning harp riffs. If there was a similar program for Linux I'd give Win 7 and 10 the flick.
As for Paul Jones not getting any credit here, just check out some of the posts on other players.
It's not just him, there are critics here that have egos you couldn't jump over. They've real sharp tongues and aren't afraid to pour their one eyed crap on anyone that (In my opinion) may be better than them or test their playing abilities, then hide behind "everyone is entitled to their opinion" even when it's not relevant to the topic they're responding to. But now I'm going off topic myself.
If you are an ear player, treat yourself to a copy of Amazing Slow Downer. If you are a tab player it will still help

hi guys thanks for the replys,firstly I never knew of any apps that can speed up or slow down whilst also changing pitch,I was able to download one for free on google play so many thanks as I never use tabs and this will really help.to address your replys I refer you both to the background beat also as I don't think this was done in fifth position or third position, more second position with an overblow.as to whether I will now be able to play this solo in third position now I can slow it down and listen properly watch this space...

Paul Jones is a tasty player and I like this solo a lot. Striking and interesting tone as well. John MG is correct and I have just run through it and tabbed it all out.

Towards the end of the opening passage below he appears (at least to my ears) to play a +7-4-5-4 instead of what might be the expected +4-4-5-4

The Open Source Audacity audio editing software also allows you to change tempo with affecting pitch. It is available for free for Mac, Windows, and Linux.
