I know speed harp is not everyone's cup of tea but this is a pretty spectacular live performance by Jason and New Blood. Man those shimmers at 5m30...Shivers!

No matter if you like or don't like speed harp, you can't deny the amazing talent and ability.

I recorded it and put in my slowdowner-----lot of Pat Ramsy in there--- I been workin on chicken shack Rod Piazza---Think this songs is next--I think to be able to play fast, is good to have, in yr bag of tricks-- I like fast players personally---for the mere fact that they can do it--I met Sugar blue on a Blues cruise --Took a brief clinic with him-- I think he tries to throw to much in a lot--but the fact is he's able to do it---just think if he held back more it would have a bigger effect when he does it--but again a bunch of these greats CAN PLAY FAST and thats to there credit-- I like yr post-I like and respect all the greats. I think what blows my mind about J ricci is how he throws all the ob and od in at that speed with no jam ups in reeds--and it flows--no hesitation between his ob and continuing the run- no waiting for a reed to close and have the ob pop and or od---He does it as easy as u or I bend draw 4-- man gussow, ricci, del junco-- sometimes make me wanna give up--but then I hear a harp player playin at the level I was at 20 years ago and everyone thinks he's great, makes me realize --ITS ALL RELATIVE--thanks for the post

Thanks Snowman for your interesting comments. I find it astonishing that Jason can find the time somehow in these blisteringly fast solos to add texture and nuances in his play.

Here I've picked out 3 parts of the solo I liked a lot
1. The shimmer 2.The quirky descending run 3. the zenith of the solo when Jason went into *free fall*.

* Which bought to my mind There is an odd thing playing with a band or bunch of friends when sometimes everying just falls into place and a sense of euphoria overtakes you and something clicks inside your head that you want to express yourself beyond your ability. It's such a sense of exhilaration that there are not even any nerves about not being able to pull it off you just go for it. Of course it could be a car wreck but more often something special happens which your mates recognise and say 'what the heck did you do there, do it again' and I say I can't I've no idea what happened! :)

That's the feeling I had with that part of Jason's solo he just went ape sh*t off the scale!

I don't know about anyone else, but I'd give my left and right testicle to be able to play like Jason Ricci.
He is just unbelievable. I love his playing.
I also think he's unbelievably generous sharing all his techniques in his free online tutorials.
I'm a big fan, and also of Adam too.
Thanks for the post, got to get more of Jason's albums
Cheers JG
