@STME...Actually, a fair question. One of the suits is blue, hasn't been off the hanger in 5 years, kind of baggy, dusty. Probably goes with Special 20s pretty well. Should have thought it thru a little more.

I forgot to mention bike mechanic. I've ridden my bicycle 22,000kms from Portugal-Vietnam, across Australia and once and a half across Canada. I moslty do roadside maintenance but we are starting a bicycle co-op in our little river town here in Dunnville, Ontario. We also have a big harmonica retreat coming up too!

Been in the Northeast as a Hydrogeologist studying groundwater contamination issues for 30+ years. Getting ready to retire.
Played in a band in the late 80's to early 90's. Then kids, work, life got in the way of that. Sold most my gear in the mid 90's now I'm back to accumulation mode. Been playing everyday for the last few years. Just might be time to get the band back together!!

Harmonica teacher, sometimes studio harmonica player and harmonica customizer ((: And it's fun job too, not as cool as playing gigs (night job), but much better than any other job. Before I finally become an all time harmonica man I was ecologist and environmental science teacher..

at parties etc, someone always gets around to asking what i do for a living. when i answer honestly they very quickly find someone else to talk to. its kind of amusing but sometimes a bit disheartening. those who want to know more usually find out quickly they didn't really want to know more, or they have an axe to grind. i have learned to just turn the question back to something else. i can't really talk about it much anyway

Social scientist for NOAA based out of the Hollings Marine Lab in Charleston, SC. Currently I am exploring the social values of ecosystem services.

@Littoral: I was a NERR GRF for the ACE Basin, got hired full time for NOAA and received a NOAA Science Board grant for a couple of projects. In fact, we just finished a project for the Mission-Aransas NERR and I am currently developing a survey instrument for the Sapelo Island NERR and Gray's Reef National Marine Sanctuary.

If I can get my wife a third job, I won't be doing any of the above. Unless its in a warm sunny climate. I love that woman, I do!!! Until then I am a disciple of my Lord, cleverly disguised as a Real Estate Broker and Slumlord! I'm currently working on my bachelors in Ministry, and spend my volunteer time with the Kairos prison Ministry. Where I have a captive harmonica audience. Our music team just performed the song "Just a little more Faith, which Adam plays on the cd for the Mississippi Kairos Prison Band!

I do maintenance programming, support and development for HL7 interfaces for large hospital and clinical laboratory medical test databases. (Phew!)
Got "retired" a couple summers ago when the evil corporate cult that bought us 8 or 10 years ago sold the software (but not the people). The group that bought it thought they could train their people for a couple of months and take over. Riiiigght!!!

Now I consult for them for the big bucks! :)

@indigo...I think Super bee lives in The land down under. So it wouldn't be the IRS. Could be their equivelant perhaps. I know a few funeral directors. Pretty cool guys. I lived next door to the one. Hr had an awesome sense of humor. Pulled pranks on the delivery people quite often. He is a hoot.

@bluemoose I would be if i knew what it was^
My first job was a Telegram delivery boy(you're showing your age if you know what that is)
Then i trained as an electrical linesman ,did that for a few years then travelled the world doing anything that paid enough for a bed and beer.
Ended up back in NZ and got a good job in an Oil refinery for a few years which lead me into being a Hazardous Substances adviser/consultant working for myself.
Still at it but winding down to early retirement.
A Blues Cruise is top of my bucket list(if i can ever figure out their booking system :)

Walterharp,
another biologist here, on the faculty of a state college in Floriduh. Taught most everything in our curriculum other than microbiology, but Anatomy & Physiology is my main bread & butter course. Prior to this I worked many different jobs: various construction and landscape trades, Stage Manager for a theater company that sent shows out on the dinner theater circuit, even earned some bucks as a musician, playing either harp or congas.

Bloozefish, which state college?

HarpinJ: "...exploring the social values of ecosystem services."
That's hilarious, even if it's a joke, which I expect it is not. I certainly get the concept AND how it would need to be quantified for some but I'd love to see that phrase somewhere in a policy or grant document. I assume breathing and food are fairly high up the list of values. Your position isn't much different than mine as my role is very much about getting the most out of the brief visitor experience in terms of understanding an estuary and especially it's value. I'm new to NERR and increasingly fanatical about strategies to get the message through enough to affect behavior. My real background is teaching.
Small world, yes. I'm looking forward to working with the Mission-Aransas EC all next week. Reading this thread leads me to actually suspect that a few here would get my screen name.

What a diverse group- I'd love to have a beer or two with you guys (and girls).

Another avid biker - got a 25 miler in yesterday!

Private practice dentist for 20 years. Now I am in charge of an externship program at a free health clinic. The dental school sends me 6 senior dental students down and we treat patients.

Picked up harp a 5-6 years ago. Just joined a "garage" blues band- we play a couple of times a month at local bars. Great fun!!

Mine will be changing in a few weeks. My wife and I are opening up a coffee shop here in Williamsport. Backhouse Café Coffee & Tea. Part of our vision is to have open mic nights and regularly scheduled band/small group nights. Any of you pop in at any time you can do a set or two. We're looking to open in early January.

I'm a semi-involuntarily semi-retired 59 year old who has been fortunate to parlay meagre skills into 25 years of mobile IT employment - not sure it adds up to a career - that allowed me to live & work in Mexico for 3 years, Australia for 3 years and London for 12 years - with loads of travel all over Asia & Europe. Just took up the harp three years ago, but had been meaning to do so since seeing Musselwhite at the Lomdon's 100 Club in 2008. Now living in Laguna Beach - at the foot of the hill, not on top - and having a blast walking the dog on the beach and practicing harp - at the same time.

I am retired.
I studied biochemistry and became a sales rep for an analytical instrument company who also specialized in clinical chemistry products. I was with them for 37 years and I retired in 2013. I played guitar for about 40 years & then a neck injury semi paralyzed my left side. My left hand has no tactility & so I can't play; since 1997. In March 2014, I began a journey playing blues harp. Making music again has rejuvenated my life! With the guidance of an outstanding tutor or two; I practise all day so as to get better at this. I enjoy jamming with other musicians so I can make music with them to entertain anyone who will listen. The best is yet to come!
