"Hey miss Bessie" Off the signature album. "Ace of Harps" and "Signature" CD's are very good tools for learning! He played Lee Oskers then so it's tonaly difficult to play along with if you use a Marine Band, but excelant material for learning and just good plain ole listening.
Probably my favorite blues song of all time is Christo Redemptor. I first heard Charlie play it live with Hot Tuna just a few weeks after this video was shot in New York.

I'm a fan who owns a modest amount of Charlie's recorded output. On 60's vinyl recording Louisiana Fog Charlie plays great and his vocals are young and strong. The 70's recording The Harmonica According To Charlie is my favourite. It features a wide variety of harp styles and the vocals are still strong. The only later solo work I have is an Alligator hits collection called Deluxe Edition featuring recordings from the 90's. Great harp playing as always but the vocal range isn't as strong and some of the lyrics may not be interesting enough to provide mass appeal.
One of the first blues album I bought was "Stone Blues" released in 1968. As it was at the time of my initial discovery of Blues music, this album had the first version of "Juke" that I had ever heard. I was also struck by the dual guitar interplay on "Hey Baby" that would go on to be a feature of the Allman Bros and onther Southern Rock bands. Of course, this LP came hot on the heels of the first two Butterfield's records.
I have seen Charlie a number of times over the years from tiny bars to Madison Square Garden. The MSG show was unlike I had ever seen him;alone on stage with just a guitar in front of pack house of thousands. Every time I have seen him, he has been fantastic and never repeated the same show twice. The last time I saw him was with Hot Tuna. In a 3 words, he carried them. Outstanding talent, Bloomfield's original harp player, that says a lot.

I 2nd bluemoose's choice of 'Stand Back'. What an record. This turned me on to the harmonica as an integral part of the arrangement instead of just being wheeled out for a showcase solo (great though that is). My favourite is his version of Help Me where it's first the musclebound bass line on the intro then plaintive and demanding 3rd position solos. Superb.

I like 39th and Indiana off Stand Back! I also like everything off of the album he did with Ben Harper especially You Found Another Lover (I Lost Another Friend). Well deserved Grammy. They should do another album or atleast collaborate again.
