Is there a way to attach a shure microphone to my neck rack without making it too heavy and putting too much strain on my neck? What I'm looking to do is have my hands free to play ukulele at the same time as the harmonica but I don't want to have to mess with a mic stand. So I'd like an all-in-one combo to hold both my harmonica and mic. Maybe some kind of DIY rig? This would be the opposite of the harplock. Does anyone have any tips?
There used to be a mic called Strnad - and there have been a few others - that would clip over the back of a harp in a rack. None were very popular and they're only available used. None of them had decent elements. None did a good job of sealing the harp to the mic so they didn't simulate a cupped sound very well either. Jimi Lee, TJ JKlay and Deak Harp, all excellent pro rack players, have been after me for years to develop something. I have a decent idea for a design but don't have the right skill set to develop and produce it. In the mean time those guys have all put together their own kluges. Deak Harp uses that closed-cell foam that's used to insulate pipes - and uses it to enclose the element and reasonably tightly grab the rear of the harp. You might contact him for more info. ---------- *************************************************** /Greg
This is not exactly what you are looking for but it is something to consider if there are no commercial options available and you want to find a possible solution.
This guy has cobbled together something that works well even if it doesn't look pretty. He doesn't use a green bullet or other named Shure mic but has adapted an element bought on ebay and fitted it with a jack input.
