Does anyone know if low F Special 20's are available anywhere? I searched online and every distributer I checked said either out if stock or no longer available. I'm wondering if Hohner has discontinued them since they have come out with the Thunderbird low tuned harmonicas. I just thought high G and low F were more of a "standard tuning". The Thunderbird harps are 3 times the price of a Special 20 and a little out if my budget.

I'm pretty sure Hohner has quit making low harps except for T-Bird. They used to make low tuned Big Rivers but I can't find them anywhere now,not even replacement reeds.

Lee Oscars come in Low F, This seems to be the lowest priced Low F that is easy to find.
Suzuki models starting at the Pro-Master come in Low F and most if not all of Seydel's offerings are available in low F.
I really like the Low F harp. I have a Suzuki Pure harp and Seydel 1847 Noble in Low F. I lost my Seydel and after several months, I replaced in with the Suzuki. This of course created a disturbance in the force that allowed me to find the Seydel, unharmed in its case, under the recliner.

As a SP20 player, I recently found out that Hohner discontinued low tuned harps in all but the outrageously expensive Thunderbird. This led me to purchase my first Session Steel in Low F#. I'm now waiting on a Low F in powerdraw tuning. I really enjoy the Session Steel and will probably never buy another Hohner harmonica.

I've got a Low F Manji that plays well and it's cheaper than a Thunderbird. Jay ---------- Music speaks where words fail.

The Big River low keyed harps were fantastic harps and very inexpensive. The price of these T-Bird harps is ridiculous. I don't know why they stopped making low tuned harps in all their popular models. I think this was a big mistake.

I think the Manji shines in lower keyed harps--having said that, when Rockin' Ron announced Low tuned Special 20s were being discontinued, I ordered 3 Low F harps immediately. And recently carved one up into a Major Cross in C!

Imo based on the L.O. I have from years back they're not bad. I play low F a lot and have 2 LF Golden Melody harps that Hohner made once upon a time. One has a problem and one is not as performance reliable as it had been (I have a LF GM on order with joe Spiers) so I've been playing the LO (I won it at a David Barrett playing contest years ago) and it's smooth....not as hard hitting as my GM's but smooth.....Here's an old video with the 4:10 mark 2nd position solo in a LO LF: ---------- Facebook

Yeah really like the low harps and I picked up a great Special 20 in Low F very cheap. If I had known they were discontinuing the range I would have bought more at the time:(
Nice solo Dennis, lovely sound from that rig.
Here's one I did just after buying the Low F. Couldn't stop playing it after purchase everything else seemed impossibly shrill:)
There is also a very nice feel when playing a low harp it sort of reverbertates through the diaphragm.
I hope you get sorted Brother Phil. ----------

Last time I checked Peter at Harmonicas Direct had managed to locate new / old stock of low key SP20 reedplates. I picked up 2 low F sets, and agree wholeheartedly about how good they sound.

Please forgive the shameless plug, but I have an inventory of new low-tuned MS Cross Harp reed plates in low F, low Eb, low E and low D. The Cross Harp reed plates are identical to the Meisterklasse. They are a little thicker – 1.05mm vs. .90mm. I also have a few sets of low F# Big River plates. ---------- Tom Halchak www.BlueMoonHarmonicas.com
