Feedback monster for me. But i know that lister Superbee uses one and maybe a few others might chime in. So it must be tameable.

If you have one of the first ones that was issued that had the same Eminence made 10's with a tweed covering, they actually sounded more like a real '59 Bassman than the original reissues ever did. They weigh like a ton of bricks because of the reverb circuit. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Great very loud amp had mine for 12 years! I swapped out the first pre-amp valve for a lower gain one! I wouldn't swap this amp ever.

I’ve got one of the older ones and it a pretty serviceable harp amp. I’ve changed the tubes and re-biased the amp. I’ll second the comment that it’s heavy and loud.
If you get it drop me an email. I think I still have a document that lists a lot of little mods you can do to make it better.
On a side note, I heard Nic Clark play through a 4-10 Hot Rod DeVille at a festival this past weekend and he sounded great. I also know that Kim uses the Hot Rods some for back line amps when he travels.

mine is a HotRod rather than a Blues. It's been a while since I did the research but from memory the main difference between the 2 is in the switchable drive channel on the hot rod. I only use the normal channel. I saw Aki Kumar has one (hotrod) which is/was used as the house harp amp for the jam he was hosting. I've forgotten the name of the bar ATM, quite well known and frequented by some of the well known pro players in that area. Aki made a video about it. I wrote to him and he gave me some more info. Aki's amp runs a 12au7 in V1, and a 12at7 in v3. There have also been some resistors changed. All that info is available. I modified mine differently, basically dropping preamp voltage to tame it, and keeping the original valve complement. The mods are not very complicated. It's a Mark Burness suggestion I've followed. I'm happy with it. 4 speakers is heavy, but that's one good reason to have a drummer. I think KW was using hot rod Deville amps because he knew he could usually get them wherever he went. He used kinder afp and other gadgets, maybe a preamp I think. Anyway, there's a lot of variables and possibilities, suffice to say you can definitely make them work if you want to. I wanted/needed a 410 just to hear myself on stage, and this old Deville was the cheapest option. Bassman amps are harder to find here, and usually relatively pricey. Sounds good too. Plenty of grunt for me before feedback. Ymmv of course.

When you use this amp, don't go into the other drive channels because the gain is FAR TOO HIGH for any mic you're gonna be using, and they're only good for guitars, which are nowhere near as hot a signal as any mike being used for harp.
Also, if there's a fat switch on it, make sure you turn the damned thing off and just like using those other channel, that's asking for a feed back nightmare.
If you put in a 12AY7/6072 preamp tube in the first preamp slot, that's the same thing that's in a real '59 Bassman.
I also recommend turning the master on 12, which will turn that circuit off and turn the treble all the off. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte
