Hi Guys I have found a talented Singer Songwriter Guitarist to work with and we are putting a Guitar/Harp Duo together. The set won't be all Blues so I'm gonna have to grow a bit as a player, the first song I need to get a grip on is, Fog On The Tyne by Lindisfarne which is like the Geordie National Anthem! I want to vamp along to his guitar and then come in on the "Solo" section at 1.33, but I'm a bit lost,I can't seem to figure it out,I think the song is in G and a G harp in first sorta fits in places but a C harp in second is'nt good. Where am I getting it wrong?

I'll check this out with the guys in the club, but in the meantime if a Lindisfarne number is important are you doing ' Meet me on the corner ' . It's a great singalong number.
Hi Geordie a great old classic. Yes It's in G I believe and C in 2nd position works well for me for the first part and G works well too in 1st.,
Then there is a key change when it goes into the instrumental part which I think is A so an A harp in 1st could work or D in 2nd. I can play the violin melody at this point in second, but impro needs a bit of work. I'll take another look at it to see if another harp works better.
Here's a YouTube of the song... sounds to me like the song starts in the key of G, so a C harp in 2nd works well, or a G in 1st... at the 1:33 point, sounds like it switches to the key of D, so a G harp in 2nd works... then it switches back to the key of G.
At first the key change at 1:33 sounded "flat" to me when I tried the C harp... but the G-harp in 2nd seems to sound okay.
a call went out for a mandolin player to lay down a track at an English recording studio.
Lindisfarne's mandolin player showed up and laid down his simple mandolin track and got paid hourly scale wage for a studio musician back in the day...not too much.
It became the most famous mandolin track ever - the call was from Rod Stewart and the track recorded was Maggie May. ---------- The Iceman
OK Lads let's FOCUS here, what I am after is some ideas about what to play and where, and in what key and position, hopefully from someone who has, or still does perform this song. This ain't ya standard I IV V chord structure and that's what \i'm strugling with,I feel this is a real GATEWAY moment here and if I can pass through (with a little help from my friends) I know I'm gonna make a real leap forward in my musical developement! Oh by the way I'm supposed to have it sussed by Friday for our next rehearsal!.

Hey Grey Owl thanks for that, Who knew this song would be such a challenge it sounds so simple! I know this is a big ask but is there any chance you could post a vid of the Tab you have posted so I can get a feel for what you are suggesting, I am quite poor at interpreting tab, I blame my head injury, but then I blame that for a lot of the wierd stuff that I do! All The Best Geordie.
Thanks Mr Owl, you are a gent!, I will have another couple of hours at it tonight and see what transpires. I very much appreciate you taking the time to do that. All The Best Geordie.
Hi Guys, well it took a while but I got there in the end and I have a nice arrangement for Fog On The Tyne, Thanks for all the help especially Grey Owl, I will post a vid of me and Paul, my guitar man performing it when the time arrives.Ta,Geordie.
