Since this is my first post, a brief introduction: I'm a farmer in my mid 30s living in southern Ontario, Canada. I've been playing the harmonica for a little over a year now with the MBH site and forum has been integral to my progression. I've been lurking here since the start of my harmonica venture, but this is my first post. Without the info and advice I glean from these pages, I'm not sure I would have continued playing.
As far as this thread goes (and the reason for my post): I like all the music in the Mississippi Big Beat thread, but I LOVED the J.J. Milteau track. The problem is I can't find the album for legal download. Any help in finding this album is appreciated.
Hi and welcome. I love the work of JJ Milteau, he is a great player.
I'm from the UK and I bought his double CD called 'Harmonicas best of' on Amazon which is a best of his songs on 2 CD's and I can highly recommend it. Here is the link to the Double CD to UK Amazon listing:-
Maybe this turned into a "recommend JJM albums thread", but as one who owns I think his entire recorded output, let me say that if you can get your hands on "Routes" that´s a good one. Have to respectfully disagree with Kingley on the merits of "Blues harp". It suffers from some really poor backing musicians and an annoying tendency to speed things up -- all too common with blues bands of a certain variety. This was early days for JJM, and he has used better and better musicians since, but the harmonica playing is already excellent.
Thanks all of you for your responses. I can see that I'm running into the annoying regional borders of the internet. When I search itunes, there is lots of JJM but the album "Fragile" is not there. Are there any other Canadians that can find this album on itunes? Amazon UK will not sell mp3 downloads to me. I can buy the actual CD from amazon.ca, but I was hoping to get a digital download. Oh well.
jawbone - I am down in the Picton area near Kingston, about 3 hours from Barrie.
Greyowl - Very well played. Certainly gives me something to strive for.
As far as turning this into a "recommend JJM albums thread," fine by me. I am a relative newcomer to the worlds of blues and blues harmonica. I'm sort of searching for stylistic direction. The exposure to new artists and new music that this forum provides is a real plus for beginners. It is helping me figure out where to go next and what to leave for later.
Hey KT - Hope you got over to watch the curling!!! and cheer for Rachel. If you ever need some personal instruction you could look up "Jumpin' Duncan". He has moved back to the Kingston area awhile ago. ---------- If it ain't got harp - it ain't really blues!!!!
@KDT: If you´re on Spotify (but I´m not sure how well this service has spread into the Americas) you will find four of his more recent albums + a double collection of earlier stuff.
I´ve bought from Fnac.fr in the past, but I live in Sweden so it´s less of a hassle.
