So , I thought I had settled in to my harp amp setup ; a slightly modified VHT Special 6 ( just tubes ) , reverb and delay pedals , Akai DM13 mic ( with a volume control pot . ) , and a Stagg mic to feed it to a PA system at larger/louder venues . This has been working very well for me and gives the tone I prefer .

I was perfectly happy until .... > I heard a guy play harp and sing through a Fishman Loudbox Performer ! Now I realized this fellow was a better harp player than me and also had a great blues , singing voice but this amp was flipping awesome ! Yep , no tubes , I know , but for the cleaner sound I prefer it was great .

My mentor/singer/guitarist friend , that I gig with , liked it so well that he bought one to use at all but the larger venues ( He has a great QSC rig , subs , a mixer , etc. for those ) . I had to have one and eventually hooked up with one from Craig's List . 130 watts RMS , two separate channels ( one for mics , another for an instrument ) , four internal speakers , three step EQ ( separate for each channel ) , built in reverb/chorus ( Again , separate for each channel ) , anti-feedback ( Yep separate too ) , line out , and more ! Gigged with it the first night I had it and LOVED it !

This is actually an early model and the new ones are 180 watts , but everyone I know that has one ( Four besides me ) say that this one has better bottom response and can give almost the volume of the newer version .

If I decide I " need " the tube sound , there are pedals for that . For now I'm so pleased that I really don't see the need for any more gear in my situation . Although this amp is physically larger than the VHT , it only weighs about nine pounds more ( About 34 lbs )and I don't need to bring my pedal board anymore . Just carry it in , plug in the power cord and mic , and it is ready to rip !

Fishman makes quality gear ( I am not a paid endorser , lol ) and is a little pricey . Used amps are out there , like mine and even the newer model . They also make a great , smaller 60 watt version with many of the same features . I heard a young man playing guitar , harp , and singing through one of those at a smaller , fifty person venue and it sounded fantastic .

In the vast world of amps available to harp players and performers of all types , I think this is a great option . Check one out . Now I don't know whether or not to keep my VHT , which has served me so well .

Agree. I've played through the Fishman Loudbox and really liked it. It really depends on what type of sound you're going for. Some people are really snobbish about gear, but I think the Loudbox is a great amp.
