Hey everybody - after all the posts about how useful & important it is for us to have some grasp on music theory, I signed up for a free Music Theory course given by the University of Edinburgh on Coursera. Gotta say, it's great. Well produced, terrific instructors who are really good at making this stuff as simple as it can be, and lots of little pop quizzes built into the lessons to ensure you're "getting it." Check it out!!!

PS - my next undertaking it to learn Watermelon Man. It's a great learning song because it requires a tongue blocked 1 - 4 draw octave and a 6 overblow - neither of which I've had a crack at yet
. Recordings forthcoming.

Can you start this course anytime .... Or do you have to wait for a semester to start?

Do you have a link?

interesting. and watermelon man also. i can do both the octave and the overblow but i havent many tunes in my bag which absolutely require the 6ob

but a proper theory course, as distinct from a harp player's theory course is something which grabs my attention

Hey SuperBee - I just finished week 3 of the course. I'm finding it interesting & challenging - and very well done. Not all of it is useful, but most of it reinforces things I'd been exposed to or fills in gaps. How're you going with it?

I started week 1 but I wanted to do the keyboard exercise at the keyboard so I stopped until I could get to the keys and I've been kinda busy since.
But I like it. It's good to get things laid out logically and some little details sorted. I already know most of what has been covered so far, but I still like it
