Seydel say the ability of the tool to work on other harps hasn't been shown. Has anyone used the Seydel de-riveter on Hohner's or other models? Interested because instead of buying Richard's expensive reed replacement jig i thought about getting the de-riveting tool and the taps for screws etc. I really can't justify Richard's jig when i'm not repairing harps for others. It would only be a reed replacement in my own harps.

I've used it on hohners. That's what I started with. Of course it works. They make me so crabby with that bs.
Take care to limit the travel of the jaw so it doesn't deform the rivet hole.
The receiving hole is a limiting factor, if thdvrivet head is too large. Hohner rivet heads are generally a little smaller than seydel.
Anyway, it's just a beadcrafters tool. A hole punch in fact. Like this:

pliers

That one has 1.25 mm hole, but they come in other sizes. Not sure which size you need

Not sure how much seydel charge but consider Andrew Zajac unless the tax is a problem. At least he is not totally full of bs like some who are just interested in pushing the party line

Yeah Bee i was thinking of ordering Andrew's reed replacement set but the hammering out of the rivet with the punch bothers me a bit can that not deform the plate as compared to the grippers just crimping it straight out? Reason i was thinking that was i noticed on watching Andrew's video demonstrating the reed change set up that he said after taking the reed out you have to flat sand the plate? I never heard Richard mentioning having to do that with his jig. Not that that is a big issue. But if using the grippers eliminated that then i think that would be better.

Bee: Just clicked the pliers link! So that does the same job? Why are Seydel charging the price they charge and Hohner are way above that even? I'm not sure what size i would need. The harps i have with rivets are Seydel Session Steel's and Hohner SP20's and a Rocket.

Ok so after much to-ing and fro-ing i decided to buy Andrew's reed replacement kit. I would prefer to support someone on the forum. I don't see myself replacing a lot of reeds but i want to have the capability of it if i need it.
