This thread was very useful for me.
It describes not only how to do vibrato, but the difference between vibrato and tremelo.

You ll see at the start of the thread, I THOUGHT, I knew what vibrato was, but come to find out .... i was doing tremelo all along. Ive since learned and have a fairly decent vibrato.

I just wanted to post this because on youtube there doesnt seem to be a universal distinction between the two. And I was misinformed as im sure others have been. So ... here's the real deal ... lol.

Thanks, Killa. That thread was awsome.I think i had limited my vibrato attempts on draw notes to diaphragm and soon ran out ofdntake capacity to sustain a note.

Grey Owl, and his reference to Chris Mahalek's concepts, made my understanding and execution so much clearer. I found Chris's slight bend easiest to implement, folowed by Winslow and Michelle's tips. Now to work on consistency and speed.

Yea exactly. As you see by my sound clips, i was simply doing tremlo.

The vibrato i use now is the Bend style. Its like the machine gun sound a kid makes. Greg Heumann i believe makes a comment about "the hairy edge of a bend" or something like that. Thats what is like. Just as you hit the point where the note starts to bend and then do the same breath as using tremelo.

Something Wislow Yerxa told me a while back that REALLY made a huge dent in my sound improvement. Both my Tone and Vibrato.

He said (This is an actual quote)

"When I first tried to apply throat vibrato to bent notes, I found that the bend would break up and diisintegrate. Only when I realized that I could separate throat and tongue action did I accomplish throat vibrato on sustained bent notes"

I never noticed I did this because I had never really used vibrato on bent notes. But if you try this you will find that you likely do it too.

When you bend a note, try to even use a tremelo like my sound clip in that thread. Fast, then slow it way down, then speed it up. Showing that you hand total control over it. It is possible. At first mine would choke when I tried it. Or rather I would choke. Because I was tying the two things together. But you can seperate the place where your tremelo fluctuates and where you bends come from. I can now fully controll a 2" vribrato in speed and intensity. And i think this REALLY helped in the Tone area aswell.

Funny enough this was only a side note of winslows origional post, but it was VERY.helpful. i actually dug back and found his origional post on Bluesharmonica.com. i will copy and paste it in another thread.
