Just want to make sure this didnt get lost in the mix on the main forum. I think alot of beginners will benefit from these the most. There not the best tracks ever, but surely some good ones to add to the collection.

You have to jump through a couple hoops to get em. Verify an email. Then on the page click the facebook like and the youtube subscribe. You dont have to goto facebook or youtube its right on the page. Then you download em right to your phone or computer. They are decent quality. I havent listened to them all yet, but hey ... they re FREE.

Posted this in the main forum thread, but as you say, it'll probably go under there quickly, as it's already halfway down the page...

Nice one, Killa - and thanks Tomlin. Have to check them out properly once I find some spare time.

I've learned quite a bit from Tomlin's vids because, while he might not be in quite the same league as Adam, Ronnie, Christelle, Lee, and some others as a player, I find he has a great teaching style. I especially liked his earlier vids, where he reminded me of Neil from "The Young Ones" (ask your Brit pals ;) ) , but even now, where he has kind of "professionalised" his style, I still find his teaching easy to follow.

Does anyone know of a good source of backing tracks? I'm willing to pay for the ones I want. In particular, I'm looking for The Godfather Waltz. BTW, Zolta49 has a lovely version on Youtube.

And, yes, I too like Tomlin--he's really devoted to teaching.

Thanks for sharing, Killa. I still need to take a look at them, but, hey, they're FREE!

On a similar note, how do you recommend playing with backing tracks for a beginner/intermediate? I've seen many discussions about how valuable it is to practice with them, but not much about how to do it?

keep on harpsquealin'!

No problem. I haven't really dug into them all yet myself.

To be honest i don't use backing tracks a whole lot anymore. But they are great for getting used to playing the 12 bar with a band.( Or a simulated band) they are also good for learning new types of rythms and how to play with them. Adam actually had a trade bit lesson on backing tracks i dont remember how helpful it was. Lol.

Ronnie Shellist has a lesson called Inner Groove. And it goes to show little things you can play with different types of rythms. It also shows the different types of 12 bar rythms you may need for various cituations. Eg. Quick 4, 1-4-2-5, etc. I found (and still find) this very useful resource. And it's only a few bucks.

Anyhow what i normally do is play along with regular songs mostly. I find backing tracks can sometimes feel a bit dead. And also playing to a song with harp in it kinda sets you in a direction. I normally stray very far from that direction after getting going, but it just makes it easy to get started. I find it hard to figure out what to play over backing tracks alot aswell.

For noodling around and such, i recommend some muddy waters, walter Horton, sonny boy 2, or whoever you like.

But after this, i think i may go home and put in some backing tracks for a change.

Well Last night I went home and put on Tomlin's Backing Tracks. There actually pretty good. I had a blast playing with em. Accept for the fact that they all seem to just end! No kind of wrap up whatsoever?!?! Pretty dumb. After playing for 3 or 4 minutes to a track it would be nice to be able to throw in a big finish, ya know?

I think it's just because Ive gotten better at playing in general that I can actually play well with the Tracks now. I really didnt have any trouble at all just Jamming away. There were a few that I didnt like. One in particular that I remember was a Jazz track. Not really much for Jazz rythms. However the Funky Jazz track was one of the more fun of the bunch. So go figure.

Anyways I think what I said yesterday was true for me before because I didnt have alot of material to work with. I've really spent alot of time recently, not only learning songs of other players, but really learning their styles. Really trying to get into how they think when they play. Specifically Rice Miller, Walter Horton. and Ronnie Shellist. Put that all together with my own style, awell as just standard generic rythms and licks, ( eg shuffles, etc.) and I have enough material to Improvise and noddle around to most rythm types without having to really think about what to play.

I also have gotten pretty good at playing Tongue Block. I don t really use it for bends too much unless it jst sounds better or is more convenient or flows better for the specific lick. But using it in conjunction with Pucker really adds ALOT of flavor, contrast, depth, and Dynamics.

I also have just started to really play 3rd position. So this helps to be able to play to Minor tracks (which I used to have to skip over) and be able to play to tracks in different Key Harps instead of always using 2nd.

Ive hit a pretty big jump in my playing in the last month or two. Mostly I think due to the move. I didnt used to be able to play in my house, but now that I've moved ... I play non stop. My girlfriend and I work different shifts, so I get home around 4 and she doesn't get home until around 10. And sometimes I'll play from the time i get out of the shower after work ... until she walks through the door. And I havent even realized I had been playing for 4 hours .... LOL. Thats pretty much what happened last night. I was playing to one of Tomlins 3rd pos. tracks. I think it was Stormy Monday, and she says ... Why are you always playing depressing stuff??? .. lol. It just happened to be a minor track, what am I supposed to play .. lol.
But I have a nice Jam Room setup now with all my gear in it, so ... needless to say I'm stuck in there most of the time playing.

Anyways this is really running on now. The point was, .... uhmmm. I'm not really sure .... But yea .. the backing track were fun ... LOL
