I saw a video about a month ago of a kid rippin it up on harp in a stairwell. It sounded great. Most of it was his playing, i wish i could find it, but the natural reverb was pretty cool too. I know this is nothing new. But I was at this green house with the old lady this weekend. It was at an old DuPont Mansion. No one lives there now, its empty. But in front of the house they had this stone drive thru carport deal.
 photo 20160327_140541-1_zpsvplvpkcu.jpg

And as i walked thru it (playing harp ofcourse) i noticed how cool it sounded. So I sat in there and played a while. But i just felt i needed to record a bit of it (really just to see what the effect would sound like recorded) I balanced my phone on the doornob and walked to the other side and played a lil something.

Anyways i thought this was pretty neat. Im goin to do this more often. See what yall think. This is in A. I did it in C aswell, which sounded better/crisper, but a damn plane flew over. I didnt notice until listening to it after we left.

The timing is a lil iffy in spots because it was so humid. I had to lick my lips a few times and had to work it in while playing. Again, you guys might not be able to hear it, but i can. Lol.

STME .... "Do you have a link to an audio file? I see the images and with all that stone you would get some sound bouncing around.

As you emtion, starwells frequently have very good reverb. My favorite stairwell that I have played is the escalator well down to the subway at a stop in Shenzhen China. It is three stories and each landing is a large oval shaped room about 40 feet across and surfaced in stone and tile. If you stand at one end of the middle floor and play it sounds great. The last time I was there I quit playing because of safety concerns. People heard the sound and then saw a tall bearded American guy and many of them forgot to pay attention to the escalator and tripped as they got to the end!"

Hah. Thats funny. This is the first time ive played anywhere like this. It was pretty cool. it was suprising how the very small amount of reverb recorded so well.

Also thought it might be a bit inspiring., (not the sound clip, but the idea in general). I know it was for me.

I thought perhaps we could keep it going. Everyone record yourself in natural reverb spots playing something. Then post it up.
(If you come across a good one. Not like homework or anything.)

That's a nice idea. I'm thinking John Bonham in the stairwell of Headley Grange.

BTW to resize the image cheaply you can put e.g. width="400" into the html.

Forgot to say, I like the playing. With that reverb, something really slow and languorous would sound good. I can't think of anywhere round me. When I was in Manchester, the central library was domed, and had an actual ECHO rather than just reverb. A bit longer than slapback but that kind of thing. So, where's your nearest domed building?

LMAO.. I Have no idea. domed building?....Hmmm. nope idk. ... But Ill put the picture back up later and you ll see how small a space this was. You dont need anything fancy.

Im not going to go looking for places. But im going to be keeping my eye out, for sure. I always have a harp in my pocket. And my phone. So I can do it very spontaneously.

Well, have a look at the dome on this...Manchester Central Library

Maybe since it's been modernised they've 'fixed' the crazy acoustic, but it really was quite strange in there. If you coughed or tapped the desk you'd hear your own echo quite clearly as if it were coming from right next to you.

Domes. There's where it's at. In the words of the song: #There's nothing like a dome#.

Wow that sounds awesome. Imma have to keep my eye out for the Thunder Dome.

STME said in the main forum thread that there is a cathedral somewhere with a SIX second natural reverb. That sounds nuts. I would love to check that out.

Anyhow just thought ide share. Feels like i got a new toy to play with. Echo spots ... lol. Pretty fun.

Hey, love the sound, Killa, and you have some cracking little licks in there. Think I need to listen to this a few times with a harp to hand and "borrow" some of them ;)

Thanks man. By all means. How do you think I got em? ... Lol. ... "Borrowed"

The base of it is James Cottons "Next Time You See Me." Which I learned from Adams Tradebit Lesson.

Its a great one to mess around with and throw different licks into. The way I play it is constantly changing. I recommend you check it out If you haven't already.

I've watched and listened to a whole bunch of Adam's free yewchoob lessons, and have heard people talk about his Tradebit Lesson. No idea what it is or how to get there though. Got some info or a link I can click on, buddy?

I'm learning that song from Adams list. I love the turnaround from that tune. Nice variation you have there.

Tigger ... TRADEBIT LESSONS CAN BE FOUND UP ON THE LEFT. CLICK **THE STORE** .....and HAVE FUN. Advice ... watch the previews. Each lesson has a preview. That way you don't buy lessons you dont like or arent ready for. But i own most of them. Some i can't even play yet .. lol. But they are fantastic.

Yes I see the photo now. Surprisingly reverby for what looks like a small space. Looks like an archway would do the trick. This could be the new internet craze.

I think an English country church would be good. Ideally I want two simultaneous recording points. One near and one far to get wet and dry signals. Two phones maybe.

I like your new Manjedi signature!

Yes it was a relatively small space. It's a bit bigger than it looks, the ceiling is high with alot of different angles, but still. That's why i thought it was so cool and had to upload it. I thought people would get a kick out of trying it. I know i did.

The Manjedi ... yes .. i had this image in my head for a while. I wanted to make it a t shirt, but obviously the trademarks would be a nightmare. I learned how to use photoshop specifically to make that. Lol. Didn't turn out exactly as i see it in my head, but you get the idea. Maybe someone better at graphic design could take the idea and run With it.
