I just picked up a Palomino V8 amp for less than $80. Still had box and receipt. ($270 + from Musicians Friend, now discontinued.)

As advertised on Musicians Friend

Anyone with personal experience with this amp?

Haven't played it yet. If it sucks for harp, I'll just use it for my guitar ;-)

Sounds like a good # for a small little combo.I,m unfamiliar with it but all I can suggest is that if its to gainy with the ax-7 pre-amp,I presume, try to tame it down with an ay-7 and see where that gets you.Otherwise as you said you can always use it for your guitar.Good Luck and I hope it works for you either way.

Richard Hunter once recommended the use of a small Crate amp that was later replaced by the Palamino.

On his current website he talks about small amps and mentions the V8. I don't think his discussion of the Crate is still around on the new website. Richard is a strong proponent of guitar amp modelers, and has developed and sells patches that are set up for harp.

Here is a page with info about all his recommended gear:

http://www.hunterharp.com/category/harmonica-musician%E2%80%99s-resources/recommended-gear/

Here is his current "first amp" page:

It sounds like a bargain, if all is good with the amp.

It's a 5W Class A, tube amp, line out. Prolly fine for Crate. Notorious cheaters on quality with transformers and speakers. Cabinets dubious as well. Bring lots of duct tape.
Check speaker. Could be real low class ( could sound OK for harp, tho ) .
Flip out any Chinese tubes for real. Power and Pre-amp.
12AX7 for 5751, or 12AY7's or even some 6211's.
