OK, I've used the search function and I know opinions aren't good, but along with my Lee Oskars, I've got a bunch of MS series harps. MB's, Blues Harps and Cross Harps.
I know the Lee Oskars are a write off to set up for overblows (unless I want to put more work in than the harp is worth), but has anyone had any success with MS harps?
I'm looking at gapping and perhaps a little embossing, but no major work. Is it worth the trouble, or should I put 'em my harmonica graveyard?

--tinus at overblow.com has videos where here seems to only work on MS harps.
they aren't as popular as other hohner models.
i re-worked an MS once and and i accidently made it overblow easily on 4, 5, and 6. so, it's definately not out of the question.
people have VERY STRONG opinions on this topic. be prepared for a deluge. -------- MP hibachi cook for the yakuza doctor of semiotics superhero emeritus

I only do gapping and have a bunch of Big Rivers. They can be set up for OBs. Some will OB the 6 quite nicely out of the box; other holes, I find, need adjustment.

I modified on a Big River for someone about a month ago and it came out much better than I was expecting. The gaps are wider on the MS harps so they are harder to play and take more work to make play very well. Its not impossible though!

"For the sake of clarity, a Marine Band is not an MS harp."
The ms serie has differend types, included a Marineband... Not the same as the classic Marineband.
Worst thing about the ms serie is that the reedplates have only 2 ore 3 screwes attatched to the comb...

somebody stated in the forum that the original hohner meisterklasse was far superior to the ms series-so glad I got mine in about 1985 because even then they were very overpriced as I found out beautiful harp but there was nothing special about it that hohner should charge that price

I have a MS Meisterklasse...it's better suited as a paperweight. ----------

@Todd that supports very well what I just posted because the original meisterklasse was pretty but ordinary in comparison to other harps like my suzuki hammond which is much better

I probably got mine in the early 90s, and even then it was 80 bucks or more. That's back when most other decent harps of the day, such as MB, SP20 and LO hovered around or below 20 bucks, and they played fine OOTB. For a harp with such a great reputation as the Meisterklasse, it's a shame the MS version of it is an unresponsive POS with an unflat comb. It is pretty, though... ----------

I bought a Meisterclasse in A in the late 80's for £30 Sterling (about $45 USD at the time apparently)
In the 90's due to German reunification, they went up to £60.
Never bought one again. Nice harp, but found them awkward to hold.

@Mercedesrules --- In Europe from 1992 to about 2001, there actually WAS and MS Marine Band, which in 1991, I had to a chance to play a prototype of along with a number of other players, and almost to a man, we all absolutely HATED it!!!
If you want to see what it was, get a Big River harp, replace the ploastic comb with the wooden comb from the MS Blues Harp, using one less reed plate screw and that's what it is. The only difference between the MS Marine Band coverplates and the Big River is the engraving on the top cover plate. ---------- Sincerely, Barbeque Bob Maglinte Boston, MA http://www.barbequebob.com CD available at http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/bbmaglinte

Yes, and I have an MS Marine Band, but it's Spanish Tuned.
As for the original non-MS Meisterklasse, I LOVED them, not because they were so wonderful out of the box or anything, but the tone was one the best I've heard, especally in the higher keys like Eb and F.
This is probably mainly because of the coverplate, and perhaps the thickness of the chrome plated reed plates. I can't be sure.
I picked up a bunch of the OLD Meisterklasses at SPAH 2010 from a music store that had a booth there. They had abunch of them, but only in Db and F#. I bought them mainly to get the cover plates, because these aren't available anymore.
I never found the old Meisterklasses uncomfortable or awkward to hold. They're the same size as a Marine Band.
