Hi all,

I see various people on youtube who play well known harp pieces, together with the corresponding backing track. I am not talking about backing tracks from sites like harmonicaboogie.com, or Adam's tracks (which are very nice of course). I want the backing track as close as possible to what the original artist was playing with, and find it pretty hard to find. For example, backing tracks for Muddy Waters and Little Walter Got My Mojo Working, or LW's Roller Coaster (as in the thread by surveyor here )

Christelle as well has many classics and what sounds like the exact backing track.

I don't like to overplay with the original full tracks, because it is harder to hear what I am doing wrong.

So - I have been asking a little around, but haven't got any clear answer. Some people find a karaoke track on YT, others find the corresponding MIDI file, free or for a small sum. But I can't find much with these methods. One could also make a MIDI track for himself with some MIDI software, but sounds like a major hassle. Other than that, I don't know where to look.

Please let me know your trick for finding backing tracks for the classic stuff!

Many thanks

I checked out the backup tracks at the Seydel site. I don't think it's what you are looking for. It's just two guys (piano and drums) playing generic stuff. You can find much better backup tracks than that for free, if you thoroughly search the internet.

I started a thread awhile back on some really good backup tracks you can download for free.

http://www.modernbluesharmonica.com/board/board_topic/5560960/407382.htm

It's a long thread and there was some problems finding a good site for downloading the mp3's.

However, I just checked, and the following links are still working!

I think you'll find some really good stuff there. There are 66 tracks in this collection. All in the 12 bar blues format, performed by actual live musicians. A great variety of different grooves, styles and keys. Much better than the Seydel stuff, and it's FREE.

Like you, I have been searching far and wide for some backup tracks that are exactly like the original classic tunes, minus the harp. No luck. The only alternative is to pay a band to make one for you. I actually did this. For $120 I got a perfect backup track for Charlie Musselwhite's "River Hip Mama". There is also a free note-by-note transcription by David Barrett for this tune.

I'd like to get a perfect backup track for Gary Smith's "Minor Mambo". I have several rhumba backup tracks but none is "just right", even after adjusting the pitch and speed. The guys who did my "River Hip Mama" track were unable to to "Minor Mambo" properly. Does anybody here know where a really good "Minor Mambo" backup track is?

Hope this helps.

Are those the Lawrence Fritts backing tracks? Those are really good. There is a nice variety of grooves and they are all 12 bar. They are worth tracking down.

Yes. It's the Lawrence Fritts stuff. I converted them all to mp3's, and uploaded to Rapidshare.

Kid Andersen, Bob Welsh and Hans Bosse were working on a set of backing tracks that were Little Walter's classic instrumentals. They finished up a few of them.

Those guys know how to back harp players. Kid Andersen spent time with Charlie Musselwhite and is touring with Rick Estrin. Bob Welsh has toured with John Nemeth, Mark Hummel and Charlie Musselwhite. Hans Bosse has played with Hummel and toured with RJ Mischo.

A couple of the tracks are on Hans' myspace page.

Thanks all for these links. Indeed the Shoji site looks what I was looking for. Very useful.

Interesting idea to have a band do the recordings for you, Jaybird.

And now, to Jam...
