I swore I'd never do this again after the last challenge but being a glutton for punishment and because I enjoy a challenge. I'm happy to take the reigns again but I will not get involved in petty arguments over whether it's a contest, competition, challenge or whatever. It's the 'Blow Your Brains Out Challenge'. It's just a bit of fun that gets us disciplined into learning a piece for the harp and putting it up for comments or critique. We can show off what we've been learning in the past and compare ourselves with our previous efforts. There will be no prizes but you will get heaps of kudos and who knows, a phone call from Simon Cowell. He does study YouTube.
First off I need to gauge the interest and get ideas of what people want from it. Bare in mind it needs to have broad appeal that will interest as many as possible so add your name to this post if you're up for it and any ideas.
Please do not enter if you are a PC extremist or have particularly sensitivities. I wouldn't want your feelings hurt. These events do get a bit boisterous but hey! we're tough Blues Players aren't we?
Looking forward to hearing your suggestions but please do not be offended if your particular idea is not used. It's nothing personal we can't please everyone and there's nothing stopping you from initiating your own challenge should you get sufficient support.
OK. Who's gonna be first to put their neck on the chopping block then?

Tooka, how about a particular style of blues, i.e. a rhumba, a shuffle, etc.? With or without backing tracks. OOOH, how about a minor blues, and let everyone do their take on it in whichever position they choose. You could specify the backing track to work from. ----------

You know I'm in.
But, if I have the style or piece I must play stipulated, and I just can't play what I want to play then I'll keep quiet and keep out, without any gripes or complaints.

I'd like to think I'll choose to submit a video this time.
I like the idea of everyone trying different stuff with the same or similar backing track.
Either that or maybe no backing track & everyone does an acoustic verson of a Little Walter or Sonny Boy song or something.

I'm in too. Just don't ban something I would like to do - and don't make the rules too complicated or I'm sure I'll do something you are not supposed to.

@isaac I guess your right, i suggested it because i'm already working on a couple of tracks(Poor Boy and Mr Cantrell). It's just me being a bit lazy, but i'm up for whatever we decide on :o)
We should keep the rules as simple as possible if we can. ----------

How about we do what ever we want?
Either with or without a backing track and either acoustic or amplified but no more than 3 minutes.

I'm up for it. Like the idea of no rules other than a time limit. Let everyone play what they're best at, enjoy the most, are working on, etc. Acoustic, amped, one man band, singing, backing tracks, loops, whatever. No musical subcategories, no skill level partitions, just an opportunity for all to play and vote for what they enjoyed the most.
Call it "Tooka's Non- and Near- Celebrity Showcase Revue" and you're all set!

How about we judge on the first 3 minutes and anything after that is up to the people watching to include or not. If it is entertaining and keeps your attention then more power to you, and if you are watching and bored out of your skull, stop it at 3 minutes.
That way you don't cut out people who might want to do a whole song, and you don't force them to watch a 7 minute vid of twinkle twinkle bluesy star.

I think it would be kind of cool to find a 3 minute or so backing track of a blues shuffle or something 12 bar blues and everyone give it a shot....Come back in 4 months or 6 months..whatever..and do it again and post both your videos. Newer players will see a big improvement.
If we are all going to play something different doesn't that defeat the original idea. I think it is cool to learn how different players, even new players, perceive a backing track.

I might be in this time, depending on the song, home life , work schedule etc. I'm not used to backing tracks but it might be the best compromise between a specific song, or a total free-for-all. ---------- Ozark Rich

"How about we do what ever we want?

I fully and totally agree with this. It will not drive anyone off who might feel stymied by any rules. It will allow us to do what we feel we do best, and by keeping them all to a time limit, it will ease the burden in the reviewing stage. It will be difficult to judge one style against another, but if we do it like last time where you just vote for whichever one(s) really appeal to you, I think it will work out just fine!
And definitely thanks to Tookax2 for volunteering again! Man, you must be a real masochist! LOL! ;) ---------- ------------------

@Isaacullah said "by keeping them all to a time limit, it will ease the burden in the reviewing stage". There will be no burden for me. If the video doesn't grab my attention and entertain within 30 seconds, I'm clicking through to the next one. Brutal but that is the way of the world now. Our attention span has diminished and we want instant gratification. We need to ensure our videos are compelling, entertaining and worthy of peoples time to watch them. I'd rather watch one minute of quality than five minutes of just OK.

@tooka: COMPLETELY agree. The internet is vast, and one must learn "process or perish" when it comes to content. If it's not immediately interesting, I'm on to something else. Now, in real life, I'm not like that. I've sat through PLENTY of bad bands hoping and wishing that, for their sakes, they had just got off to a rough start. Not so with the internet.
