Hey guys,

If any of you are in the Atlanta area, I'll be playing with a guy named Mark Miller. We'll be playing this Thursay, 8/12, at the downtown Decatur train depot which is now called "Farmstead 303". I think we play at 7 and at 9 - just got the news today, so if anything changes I'll let you know.

This is to promote an album Mark just recorded as a tribute to Blind Willie McTell. Buddy Greene played harp on the album, but couldn't make any of the gigs. There'll be a full band assembled - piano, upright bass, 2 guitars, dobro and harp. At our last gig, Sam Skelton played sax and clarinet, and he may be at this gig as well - he's incredible. (Sam played on Elton John's last record.) Needless to say, it's a pretty cool group of musicians and I'm honored to jam with them.

If any of you guys can make it, I'd love to meet you and maybe talk harps with you after the show.

I live about 2 miles from there and my wife's oldest son manages it and also the place right across the street which is called "Feast". His name is Robin Vaughan.
We will be there to see your act. Looking forward to it.
Regards.

Blind Willie Mc Tell is one of my favorites. I don't think he ever recorded anything with a harp, though. But he was a great 12 strings guitar player and composed a lot of blues classics. I also like the fact that he put a lot of humour in his lyrics, especially in his rags.

Cool! See you there. I think our piano player has another gig across the street, but he said he'll be over for a couple of tunes. It'll still be a great time. 3 of us will also be on the "Good Morning Blues" show on Thursday morning from 7:15-8:15 - http://www.wrfg.org/features/shows/shows-group.asp?snid=1

Todd Parrot can wail on that harp....
My wife and I just got home from seeing Todd Parrot blowing his harps with the Mark Miller group in Decatur, Ga.
VERY VERY GOOD PLAYING. Todd knows what it's all about, bet on that.
Nice fellow to talk with and even showed me some tricks with those customized harps to cop that overblow when needed. And I am not easily impressed by harmonica players.
We sat 8 feet from him, he was working on a standup mike and played outstanding tasteful harp behind this group who was doing Blind Willie McTell Gospel music. No John Popper craziness of "look at how many notes I can play" etc.etc.etc.
The club used to be a train depot and back in the forties when I lived at the Methodist orphanage down on Columbia Drive, we used to sneak off and hop on the back of freight and passenger trains slowing down there and bootleg rides to downtown Atlanta. Lots of history around that place.
If any of you get a chance to see Todd play, it's well worth the visit and you will like it...(unless of course you're a self absorbed donkey who "knows it all")
Thoroughly enjoyed by me and "she who is to be feared" (wife).

Can't wait to hang with Todd next week. I'll probably have to take a number at SPAH to get some face time with him!

@ joeleebush - Thanks for the nice review! I appreciate you coming out and it was very nice meeting you.

@ Joch230 - Yeah man, let's hook up and jam at SPAH!

@ groyster - Thanks! Yeah, I'm not really a tongue blocker, though I sometimes use the technique a little bit. Hope to see you at SPAH?
