Any Canadians have experience buying harps from US (through internet)? I was thinking of buying from Rockin Rons .... wondering if we get charged duty or brokerage fees.

Yep - all that plus taxes, sometimes adds about $20 - 30 bucks on a $100 order.
Have you checked out these guys http://www.musicianswebstore.com ---------- If it ain't got harp - it ain't really blues!!!!

I also throw in a recommendation for Rockin Ron. Great service. I paid 57 CAD for my Manji (includes shipping and taxes) and it got here all quick-like.

To Oda and Froz - what did the customs and duty add up to - there always seems to be a bit of varience there. Sometimes a lot sometimes nothing. ---------- If it ain't got harp - it ain't really blues!!!!

To follow up on my OP. I just received my shipment from Rockin Rons. It took 14 days to Sydney Nova Scotia. Ron shipped the day I called or next day so any delays were with the the carrier and/or the border services. In this case we used Priority US Mail ($12US). I did not pay anything extra such as taxes, duty or brokerage fees...at least not this time.
BTW I ordered Manji's (A and Low F) and a valved promaster. Manji's seem nice so far. Ron was great to deal with.

Pro or Anti, wasn't the whole point of NAFTA to create, you know, a North American free trade zone where you didn't have to worry about tariffs crossing the borders?

Hi, narcoran. I was thinking about the same thing yesterday. The answer's probably something like we are not a millon dollar making multinational so we have to pay.

Nacoran, the only thing free about NAFTA is governments thinking they are free to whack you with a tax every time you do as much as pass wind. We've had the federal GST and soon in BC and Ontario that will be rolled up with provincial tax into the HST and applied to every thing. We'll have to wait and see what happens at the border.
I hope all my harps on order come this month (hint, hint!!) before it officially kicks in July 1st but lots of places seem to be charging it already.

Hey Blue - Thanx for the headzup on FedEx and Oops - The last couple of orders - way back when Harp Depot actually sent stuff to you!! Came with hefty fees. If I order again from south of the border I'll request mail and see what happens. I'm pretty sure they are just out to get me!!!!! ;-) ---------- If it ain't got harp - it ain't really blues!!!!

I bought a Special 20 from Billy Wray Music and it cost about 6 dollars cheaper than I could get in anywhere else in Canada (including shipping)
(I like this store, too: nantel music I bought a Korg ca-1 on a Monday and it was in my mailbox on the Wednesday...)
No duties or other fees. It took 8 business days (ordered on June 2nd, got it on June 14th).
