Anyone have experience with the Harp Mic Shop?

I am considering buying an element or two and a little FatAss. There is just no reviews I can find.

that is Dave Wren. I think his eBay handle is TechnoBird or something like that. He is up in one of the West Coast states I think but I don’t know why I think that. Probably from the Sender’s address on a package I received I guess.
It’s a long time since I’ve had dealings with him but he built the EV605 custom which I bought from Ron Sunshine about 12 years ago and that was and still is a killer mic.
I bought a custom JT30 style mic from him about 10 years ago. That thing had a Turner crystal and was pretty weak but it was also cheap and well-built. It’s been a long time since I looked but I recall he used to sell a pretty eclectic range of mics plus some kits and various parts. Sorry, I don’t know about the parts but the person is in my experience a pretty solid individual to deal with and answers questions. Things can change of course but I think Mr Wren established his reputation probably in the period prior to the last decade and I’ve never seen any online grumbling about him so you can make your own decision about what that means but I would not be concerned. He knows the stuff.

Yes, The Harp Mic Shop is Dave Wren and he is in Salem, Oregon (actually the Capital ((not Portland)) and he has worked on my mic for past 15 years. He is as good or better than anyone I have worked with (Tom's Mics, Dennis Gruenling, Jeremy Snell, Mark O., etc.) especially on customizing dynamics. I have a "Butterfield Mic PE54 and he put volume control where switch was (first shown to me by Norton Buffalo 1978) but also removed the 3-pin connector on bottom for a 1/4" jack so I can plug guitar cable right into bottom like other mic with adapters we all use.
Dave has also done all work for Sonny Jr about 20 years (see Charlie Musslewhite, Sugar Ray, etc.) with their Turner Mic shells with VC on back end.
Good luck! Dennis G. has been doing some mic work lately also during Covid.

Dave Wren is a great guy to work with. In the last 6 months he's done some repair and mods for me and also built a killer mic for me. the Little FatAss is an amazing value. Very strong. I've never heard anyone complain about his work and I've always been VERY happy with the work he's done for me.
All the best,
Jay

Just got my little fatass and a turner crystal element. Did a quick 5 minute test of the badass and it sounds great. It has the bottom end I was missing with my no-name ceramic element in a turner shell. Once I have more time with the badass and install the turner crystal I will give another update. Service was great. Shipping was fast across the country.

So....Since this thread reminded me about Dave I sent him a shell to replace the element. Upon receipt I checked Dave's new element against my regular performance mike: an older Turner with a "black label". In comparison Dave's choice of element was about 25% larger and fuller in volume and grit than the black label. The difference was radical and the price was very modest for the element and volume control upgrade....Perhaps most important: I tasked Dave with creating the best mike he could for me implying cost was not a concern. I suggested the best "black label" he had. He suggested an element much less expensive - and superior to a black label....And he came through That's integrity!
