Hi guys.

I intend to buy Fame Tube 5 Combo:
http://www.musicstore.de/en_EN/EUR/Fame-Tube-5-Combo-6-Speaker/art-GIT0013682-000

I think it sounds not so bad in this video:

An acquaintance of mine told me that this amp is only "fender champ 600" with an additional knob, and thus it is suited for a blues harmonica.

Has anyone used this amp? Can you tell me anything about it?

Brother i never heard of the amp i gave it a listen I'm not sure if the stomp pedal had a lot to do with the tone caracture,,i do wish they would play them strait out the box no effects pedals that way you would get a better listen to the amp,,well 2 buttons is allways better than One gives a Little more room to dial in your amp..first could i ask do you have a mic where will you be playing this Amp,,is it a Tube amp you want,,it's a tube amp and very cheap,,looks like a great starter amp,,and your next purchase is a microphne and your trying to put a good cheap harp rig to gether,,

I tried a Fender Champ 600 and did not like it. I don't know if it was the speaker but it sounde like it was playing in a box. I would be more inclined to look at the Epi Valve Jnr or, if you are in Europe, the Harley Benton GA5. The HB is only available from Thomann and is about the same price as the Fame.

Thank you for your response.

I already have the Audix Fireball mic.
I've heard amps like that "fender champ" made by one russian master. The sound is good. But he doesn't make that amps by now so I'm taking interest in Fame Tube 5.

If you're not sure what sound you want then I wouldn't recommend buying an amp yet. You could very easily end up disappointed with what you buy.

I would just spend time playing acoustically and learning about different mics and amp set ups. Then keep saving your money and when you have a better idea of what you want buy an amp then.

If however you absolutely insistent on buying an amp now, then I'd suggest getting either the Epiphone Valve Jr or even better if you can afford it get a HarpGear HG2, HG Rock Bottom or a Kalamazoo Model II from Greg Heumann. These are all tried and tested amps for harmonica.

The Fame Tube 5 is not a bad sounding amp in that clip. But most of the sound is coming from Mario who is playing through it.

He does play the amp at first with no effects on it and it sounds good. In the second part he uses the BBE Sonic Stomp with the amp.

I would suggest emailing Mario via YouTube for his thouhgts on the Fame versus the Epiphone, etc. I happen to know that he has played through a lot of amps and he will give you a totally unbiased opinion on them.

Thank you.
I'm going to think about it some more.
Writing to Mario is a good idea. I don't know why I haven't done it before. :)

I have a gretsch g5222 (same as champ 600)that I was unhappy with and ended up modding it and then putting an 8 inch weber in there. I've just bought a valve jr and out of the box, it is a MUCH better harp amp than the champ 600

Hi folks,

in a bad way of using the english language - please forgive me :-) - I try to tell you what I think about the Fame Amp or the using of small Amps at all.

It`s is a big mystery to get the right Amp and it always will.
It does not matter which Amp any other harp player use. It will just show you how he sounds with his skills, his tone and his taste in using this or that amp. I don`t collect amps, I just have a handfull. The small amps that I use are for small gigs and the big one for..... you now what I mean.

You can google around and you will find a lot of people who loves the Fender Champion. And you also will find people who hate it. And between all of them you will find the guys who starts to change the tubes or do other modifications. That is okay. For them. Not for me. I play what ever I can.

Anyway: For Harp Players who dont know exactly which amp could be the right one I have t say it like Kingley. Go the right way. se a HG2 r a Kalamazzo or a Meteor - it depends on what you wanna try to do.

The Fame Amp is okay. I like it. But don`t forget: the amp is not the solution for big playing. First of all comes the acoustically playing and the control of single notes, octave playing, rhythm, timing and stuff out of the harmonca basics-trick-box. 95 % of the sound comes from the player and the rest is the amp, the mic and the right using of he mic (cupping).

All that is old school and there is nothing new.

Greetings from Münster/Germany

Mario
