I´m sitting in with a band for a few songs this weekend, and the evening´s theme is film music. Any tips on harmonica stuff, reasonably simple, that I can throw in? "Midnight cowboy" and "Moon river" are already on the table, as well as part of a soundtrack Toots T did for a Swedish movie back in the 60´s. (You won´t know it if you´re not from this neck of the woods.) Perhaps one more tune is needed.
I was thinking along the lines of something harmonica related, (strong associations to the instrument) and perhaps a bit ... more than those three notes in "Once upon a time in the West". Doesn´t have to be bluesy, although I´m almost exclusively a diatonic player nowadays and don´t mind "melodic bluesniness" at all.

There's a scene in the original Oceans 11, the one from the 1960s, where Sammy Davis Junior is singing and two guy's are playing harmonica, at least one is a chrome never could tell about the other. The tune seems simple enough.

that one with Bronson is once up a time in the west? although Bronson is shown with a diatonic, ive heard the tune is played on a chromatic. i havent tried to play his part on a diatonic but i saw a conversation where a fellow was saying how it had frustrated him for years until he realised it was a chromatic

Yes, SuperBee, it´s "Once upon a time in the West", and those three notes are played on a chromatic. It´s no bigger deal to fake it on a diatonic -- although he makes some noice with the slide halfway in, IIRC -- but it´s not much of a "tune" to go to town with. I´m more looking for instrumentals that are sort of spontaneously associated with the harmonica.

Yes, I saw you mentioned it in OP, but then Groyster mentioned bronson and I wondered if there was more to it or something else. I think the theme from the good the bad and the ugly sounds like it should be a harmonica; too bad it isn’t

Harry Dean Stanton did a half, harp half singing bit in the movie Kelly's Hero's, can be found about a 20 min into the movie.
And you could get the whole band to howl like a hound dog at the right moment, should get some laughs.

It's a simple riff except for maybe being bent to the floor, but I like the short harp sample in the beginning of the AMC show Preacher.
Googled and found an old thread with some more...

Sugar Blue plays a very cool tune on the soundtrack to "Angel Heart". Sorry, it's more a jazz-ish film score type of sound than it is "blues", but it is nice harp work.

some that I remenber: John Hammond "Little Big Man", Musselwhite "Black Snake Moan", Hugo Diaz "The Counterfeiters", Sonny Terry/John Juke Logan "Crossroads" , Howard Levy "Striptease", and I think "Dances with Wolves" features some harmonica.

Spam filter got them. It had been doing so well too. It hadn't gotten anything in a couple weeks.
