Here are a couple of recently completed projects. The first is a beautiful Marine Band 1896 in A with a Brass Comb. Next is a Golden Melody in C with a Glacier White Dupont™ Corian® Comb. Nothing that unusual about those two. The third is something unique – a first for me. My machinist surprised me with a couple of Stainless-Steel Manji combs last week. I’ve been kind of bugging him to make me a few samples. It takes a long time to make them and they are expensive, but he finally relented. Whenever I try something new, I like to get the opinion of an expert to see if it is worth pursing and making more. Who better than our very own Jason Ricci, the Moon Cat to take them for a test drive? This is a hybrid harp of sorts. It has Manji Reed Plates in A and Chrome Plated Special 20 Covers (and yes, even the cover plate screws are Chrome Plated). Jason likes the unvented Special 20 covers. They fit nicely on a Manji with just a minor modification. Both the Golden Melody and the Manji/Special 20 Hybrid are Christmas presents for him - of course, fully customized, set up for Overblows and Overdraws. I probably made a poor choice in the backdrop for these photos. Everything is so shiny that the denim fabric is reflected on the comb and covers and sort of distorts things. But it is a cool visual effect. Plus, I didn’t look at the pictures until I had already shipped the harps, so it is too late to take more photos. Oh well………… enjoy.
