Does anyone out there know what keys or tunings Keith Dunn is using for songs such as, 'Need To Make A Dollar'? I just can't make out the harp key for that and others from his solo album.

I've never known Keith to use any special tuned harmonicas....

He's using what sounds like just a normally tuned harp in Low F# (Low Gb) listening to this version.
Thanks for posting the question. I like his playing and the song.

Low F#, huh? No wonder I couldn't get my Low F to sound like him! Many thanks, John. You have a much more refined ear than me, clearly.

John is correct. I pulled out my Sp 20 Low F# that I've had for years and could easily play along to this track. Unfortunately, Hohner stopped making the Sp 20 in most of the low tunings they used to. I've had to since supplement my kit with various low, high and minor tunings from different manufacturers. Hohner now has some of the low tunings in their Thunderbirds, but unless you come across a special deal, they are a little pricey. Seydel has the widest range of keys I've come across and Suzuki has several lows now. There is a post on the forum from December 16, 2011 about where to get a Low F# you may want to reference.

Low F# is a great key harp. I use mine a lot with a guitar player who likes to play songs tuned down a half-step.

The Seydel Session, Session Steel, and Solist are all available in this key.

Keith borrowed a couple of new harps from me (ok, I gave them to him) at a fest once, never mentioned any special tuning. Went on stage an hour later, so I don't think he had time to modify them.

I haven't used my regular F# since I bought my first low F#. Low F# is my standard F# harp now in all sets, and the higher pitched F# is only a special use harp that I never choose to use.

Sadly no F# in my collection but tried in 3rd position B harp or 5th A harp.
