Check out this video and tell me what harp this guy is playing.
I wasn't into the first second or two--often that's all it takes me to tell that I don't need to listen to any more--but then, at the 14 second point, he hit a note that I couldn't place. (He does it again at the 39-second point.) And for harp nerds, that's all it takes.
Is this a (Brendan) Powerharp? Something fishy is going on.
That's a valved blow bend on Blow 6. He plays additional valved bends on other "unbendable" notes (like the Draw 8 bend at about 0:20). Sounds like standard tuning to me. =========== Winslow
I know he is a Seydel endorser and judging by the orange harp it looks like Seydel. I have sent him a question about it on Youtube. At 21 seconds those notes sound very Stevie Wonder and open up a bunch of possible new directions forward for me as I love Stevie's sound. Overblows played well were never my problem, it was the raised volume and intonation of those who hadn't quite mastered them. The powerbender looks interesting. Brendan, you would have an idea about what Shawn is playing, could you enlighten us?
The Stevie Wonder-like sound is because of the valving - makes the diatonic sound like a chromatic. I often hear a similar tonal quality in PT Gazell's playing - and he plays half-valved Gazell Method Seydels. =========== Winslow
