In the course of making this post I answered the question I had, so never mind.
I had noticed that Billy Boy Arnold played similar licks on his 1993 recording, as Lester Butler on the Red Devils’ 1992 recording. Lester is also credited with playing on one track of Billy Boy’s 1993 album. Sometimes I’ve wondered if Lester influenced Billy, but then I found the 1977 recording and it’s clear Billy Boy has been using those licks a long time so I’ll go back to sleep now.
