Is there any sort of blues scene in South Korea? I've just received an invite from a university in Seoul to give an academic talk. I'm trying to assess the possibilities for an add-on workshop and/or concert. I have zero knowledge of the South Korean blues scene, and I can't find anything on line. Share if you know!

I know there are people into blues in SK (not necessarily Seoul Blues, but someone would have to play with that idea too). I met a good young South Korean blues guitarist here in Tasmania last year. He was exhibiting a BB King-influenced style.

Some years ago at King Biscuit I met some guys, the Far East Blues Band, from SK. They were 3 piece doing some good Freddie King stuff. No idea what's up with them since that was in '01.

I can't speak of "The Scene" but I'm pretty sure there are plenty of fanatics in Korea who are well off into the blues. I would advise (if I can be so presumptuous) you to hone your Korean Folk music chops. That could be some real fun.

There is a WEALTH of harmonica in Korea - most is not blues or even diatonic....if you get a chance, try to experience the tremolo players - either solo (classical) or the ensembles...possibly one of the most beautiful sounds you've ever heard on harmonica.

Get a hold of the club manager at one of all of the military bases around Seoul. You can probably get a gig there.

most K-dramas seem to hire the same chromatic player for their sound tracks.

Shakeylee... yeah, years ago I tried posting all the words for harmonica from around the world. We don't seem to support many special characters. I ended up having to take a screenshot of the text and post it as a picture, with an attached file. (Using different words for harmonica get you really different results in YouTube searches.)
