For those who may have missed this exceptionally nice clip the first time around. I'm impressed with everything about this: Sheldon Ziro's singing and playing; the deathless groove; the non-traditionalist sounds that somehow feel absolutely right. If you're looking to sing and play this song at your next jam session, this could be your study tape.

One notable element is the way that Ziro not only tracks the blues pitches in just the right way, but also delays his singing just the right amount to give them swing.

I suspect that BBQ Bob knows what I'm talking about. This is an uptempo groove, but it never rushes.

Great groove there! Never heard it with banjo and rub board. I think those guys must know each other pretty well to hold it together like that. There was nothing to not like there.

Delay singing is something like what I remember Muddy Waters used to talk about and all it is really singing and playing BEHIND THE BEAT and this is it right here in a nutshell and the groove is nailed!!! When you hear this tune played in the vast majority of open jams, it's usually seemingly too fast because the groove too often gets played dead straight on top of the beat or worse, way ahead of the beat and that totally screws the groove up like crazy. Right off the bat, none of these guys here have lost the time from beginning to end and that makes this thing groove. The minute the time gets even slightly messed up, the groove is totally down the toilet like it is many open jams. I can EASILY play this tune with these guys because they don't screw the time up and they groove properly BEHIND the beat.

well, let's face it, the washboard/percussionist absolutely makes this song, terrific groove and in the pocket. If this was done with a conventional drum kit, the drummer would be using brushes to make a simiar beat, which is closer to country music drumming than blues, that truck driving beat.

That's 2nd and Broad in Nashville. Don't know them, but that was fine.
