I'm looking to learn new songs on my harmonica. I'm looking for something that'd remind me of "Piano Man," "When The Saints Go Marching In," or "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother." I'm not interested in learning the entire piece, but perhaps the intro. Any suggestions?

Thank you!

That depends a lot on your tastes. Tom Petty uses a lot of harmonica that is fairly identifiable and pretty straightforward. Even on the songs that he doesn't play it often works.

You can play pretty nice versions of Knockin' On Heaven's Door on harmonica in first position, or Blowin' in the Wind. Cold Missouri Waters, Erie Canal Springsteen does a cover that is fun to play along with... actually, that whole album is fun... the Seeger Sessions. Lots of folky stuff. You got your classic songs that everyone learns at some point, like Oh Susanna...

When I started I found that after a while I could pick out the tune for anything I could whistle. For me, that meant tons of Beatles stuff and Journey (I know, a weird combination... I'm a product of my times.) The riff from Love Me Do is pretty famous.

The Minstrel Boy, Danny Boy, The Band Played Waltzing Matilda...

Or any of these...

Actually, any bugle calls are really easy to learn. They are all just blow notes, so Taps, Reveille, or the fanfare you hear at the start of races...

Or the Star Wars theme!

Moonshadow by Cat Stevens. You can play the whole thing in the middle octave without bends, and then go to the first octave and work on your draw bends.

I think that any song in which I can either do fill, a little solo with and that I like, is a worthy song. Being diverse and able to accompany on anything thrown my way is worth my time and enjoyable also.

Orange Blossom Special is cool! I'm adding it to my harmonica songs list. Moreover, I guess Canon in D (or C) will be great to play on my harmonica.
