Really well done Super Bb! Y’all looked like you were having a blast. Someone needs to send this video to Mick Jagger because the Patron Saints play the song better than the Stones did.
Thank you all for taking time to check it out and comment!
The video editing and mix are down to the guitarist. Somehow he makes time and finds energy to do this in his schedule of a full-time job and a 2 hour round trip commute. I have a 10 minute commute and can barely make time to practice songs.
This song has been fun to work with. It’s naturally fairly interesting with the 2 different 8 bar patterns plus the 12 bar instrumental breaks. The shift from the 12 bar to the bridge provides the opportunity for a nice lift in the vocal which is fun to sing. The bass really drives that transition and makes it easy for the vocal. The guitar fills really lift the song.
Thank you Iceman. The harp is strictly leaning on Little Walter but the vocal is my own.
Sundancer and John, I had a huge advantage on Mick in that I had plenty of time to practice. I gather they sprung that session on Mick with no warning. I’m glad you said that though because I’m not a fan of the recent stones record of the song, and my colleague thinks my claim to play this better than Mick is laughable.
BronzeWailer, I would love to get the band over to the big island for a week or 2. This summer was good, playing twice a week for 3 months really helped vs playing once a week.
Again, sincere thanks to all who took time to listen and comment.
Thanks Tom. i really don’t know what I’m using here. I plug in a board with 4 pedals; LOne Wolf harp tone plus, Octave, Delay, Reverb. I was probably using Delay set fast and short, but could’ve also had the octave on. I don’t use the other pedals with this amp.
@Superbee: You should work on getting your collegue fired! That´s a terrible insult to your skills -- and your playing and singing, as well as the entire band´s band´s take on the tune, shows much more life than the ageing Stones lacklustre record from last year. Also fun to hear a slide solo where it comes as a bit of a surprise.
Martin, I read some of these comments to him. He’s now retreated to a fortress where Jagger sits securely on the laurels of his lifetime career of achievement and acclaim, unworried by the critics of his septuagenarian attempts at off-the-cuff recollections of classic blues harp licks. exchange of personal insult has been one of the foundation stones of our long working relationship. no doubt this will continue over the remainder of our careers. I’ll tell paddy you liked the slide.
Very well done. I've played this song numerous times with bands, but the song is never covered as well as you guys have done. I don't sing, and I must say that you've nailed the vocals. +1 on the slide guitar, too.
