Wow just found this by J Ricci—Really informative and helpful—for learning the 145 changes and playing over chord changes
Hope I didn't break a rule posting this;

The band I play with now has bass—drum—guitar- harp and now sax
only 1 main rhythm instrument---so I do a lot of octaves splits on the I IV and V----so guitar player has more to lead over—I just hold it steady like a background synth—
Now the new sax guy n me are both doing a root note thing over whatever chord he’s on—kind alike a horn section—we very which octave to do it sometimes –it’s a b last and helps guitarist on leads

This video just opened up a hole new world of backing tips w/ out being intrusive
Its all based on cross harp 3 draw and bends-
Note;---3db1= 3 draw bend first bend etc

3 draw home base over I chord
3db1= home base over IV chord
3db2= home base for V chord

By home base I don’t mean the root note –I simply mean u keep hitting that note preferably on the one beat of every measure

did a quick chart to see why it works so well
So if were in G playing a C harp
Simple G chord= 135 G B D THE I CHORD
Simple C chord =135 C E G The Iv chord
Simple D chord = 135 D F# A The V chord

So 3 draw over the I chord G = the 3rd of the G chord

The 3db1 over the IV chord is the b7 of the C chord [part of pentatonic scale in C]
And I think it’s the tri tone of the I chord

The 3db2 over the V chord is the 5 of the D chord

Probably made a mistake somewhere But I wanted to see why it worked so well
Still don’t see why—But it sounds great

Aside from my jibberish—I just found a whole new deal for backing someone and using the bends on hole 3 more—
Goes along with my trying to get back to being less busy and to play more traditionally
At any rate IM STOKED Im gonna work on this

Thanks J ricci and MBH

Thanks so much for making me aware of this video. It’s so simple but so intelligent. It is the easiest way to learn improvising blues on any instrument and even easier for harp players, since it’s all around 3 draw!!

Info is helpful, yes....

how many of you really "own" those notes created through bend technique for 3 hole inhale, though? (which I recommend as the first step before actually using them)

I especially enjoyed the OB battle and shuffling of harps. Commiseration is always catharticating.
