Of all the styles of blues, this may be my favorite. There's no harmonica in it, just a voice, a horn, and a groove. Great to sing and jam along with. I stole lots of licks from Lou Rawls's "Stormy Monday" album, which this performance reprises and expands on, and soaked up lessons in the feeling and the soaring collective freedom of blues on the jazz side.

For my money, it just doesn't get much better than this.

Then you would love Bluesin' Around by Kenny Burrell ! If you are open to jazzy blues like on the West Coast a la Charles Brown et al, then you are very close to bluesy jazz. Give it a try. An amazing album.

Loved the video and music.
Also shows that you can actually dress nicely and make great music.
..musicians who actually dress up for a gig...seems quite the rarity these days.

In the words of the immortal bard, I'd give my right nut to be able to sing like Lou Rawls.

Yes, Charles Brown is another of my faves. Saw him a couple of times live. Whew.

octafish, agreed! He is one of those singers who seems to just open his mouth and it effortlessly comes out sounding great. There are few like him, men and women, and I'm jealous of all! I had a fraternity brother who's dad sounded JUST LIKE Lou Rawls..... He was one smooth cat!
